Hello again

After about 3 years without a 944, I've been lured back into the fold. So this is to say a quick hello to the 944 community. And straight away on revisiting the forum, I see that many of the familiar names are still here.

As much as I loved my white turbo, I eventually concluded that even after throwing over £20k at her, she wasn't going to be quite the car I wanted her to be. So this time around I've bought a car that is already excellent, just needing the odd few tweaks here and there to get it to my liking. It's a red 944S2 (1990) and I purchased it from Steve Bull Porsche in Devizes. As part of the purchase agreement they are doing a comprehensive check over and service, including several big jobs I've requested. So, new cylinder head gasket, new clutch, all new belts, tyres, some paint on the nose, etc. Fingers crossed the annual servicing costs over the near future will then be relatively modest. (Words which will obviously come back to haunt me!)

My other hope that is that opting for an S2, I'll not got get caught up in the "chasing horsepower" game that comes with turbo ownership...

I'll try and post some pics when I eventually have the car.

On a related note I have some spare space in my new car cave/warehouse here in north Dorset. So if anyone needs storage in this area, feel free to get in touch.

Welcome back into the fold Ewan, hope to see you at a meet sometime in the future..

Cheers

Pete

Does the spring trip to Rutland Water still happen? When I last did that we convoyed as maybe 20 or so 944’s which was my favourite automotive sight of that year. But to go there and back in a day, from Dorset, was quite a task. Thankfully the 944 driving position is about as perfect as you can get (if you’re shaped like me!).

What 944 events are up next?

I think this years meet was a bit of a disaster...I have bern twice but to be honest health isn't great these days and Rutland is too cold for me so early in the year. I'm unlikely to be able to go again, it's just not worth the risk for me. Summer days only from now on I think..

Welcome back Ewan, I think only 2 or 3 cars made Rutland last year as it was one of the snowiest weekends of the year, How is the Maserati collection?

Tony

The Maserati collection has been thinned. Currently just one - a GranCabrio-MC. It's quite rare, I think about 30 came to the UK, and is essentially their top-spec convertible (a roofless GranTurismo MC-Stradale, if you like). By far its best feature is the sound from the 4.7 normally aspirated V8 in sport mode - incredible. Other interesting cars in the collection at the moment include a very rare RHD Venturi Atlantique twin-turbo, a classic Merc SL and the Ferrari 400i owned by Mohammed Al Fayed and (possibly) used by Dodi/Diana. But I recently bought a new Range Rover as my winter daily, and I have to say, it's a lovely place to be on a cold and wet drive. Peerless.

Very nice too, that Maserati looks lovely!

Called in to Steve Bull Porsche earlier this evening to check on progress. The car‘s looking great, especially under the bonnet where they’ve skimmed the head, fitted the new gasket, and completed a front end rebuild with all new belts, pulleys, rollers, pump, etc. Plus a new clutch, short shift kit, some new interior switches, etc. The list goes on. Soon it’ll go to the body shop for a little paint (e.g. front bumper) and wheel refurb. Then back to Steve for new tyres, alignment and a good polish. So, I’m probably only 2 or 3 weeks away from collecting an absolute beauty. Exciting times ahead.

Nice to hear you've bought another 944 Ewan.

Sounds like it will be just what you want it to be.

That collection sounds awesome - loving the pic of the Gran Cabrio [8D]

And Al-Fayed's old 400i eh? Cool.

For Steve Bull too...:ROFLMAO:

Not sure I’ve perfected the art of posting a picture. Oh well. But the advice says “paste this into the box that appears....” and I don’t get a box.
