Hello again.

Well over 12 months of humming and ahhing and saving our pennies and we've finally taken the plunge.
My wife and I have placed a deposit on an 05 997 Carrera S at OPC in Solihull. We are hoping to collect early next week[:D].

It's a manual car with 18k on the clock, in atlas grey, with black leather.

The toys are PCM with Nav and phone, electric seats with heating and memory, sports chrono + PSE, park assist, rear wiper, bose + 6cd changer.

The car will be my wife's daily drive and i'll hopefully get to hoon round in it on a weekend.

I have a couple of questions regarding collection. If anyone could help me I would be verfy grateful.

I must be upfront and say I know not a jot about the marque. I've previously owned Audi and Bimmers and before that Subaru Impreza's.

The car will be having the 111 point check and then another 12 months Porsche warranty taking it up to 16 months.

Can I rely on this check to allude to any faults or would it be advisable to pay for a 3rd party inspection as well.?

Do I assume that it will have a complete service history if I am buying from an OPC?

Is there anything in particular I should look out for pre-delivery?

Many Thanks
a very excited Andy Brown[:)]

Congratulations!

I would check the quality of the phone beforehand if you can. Although everything in the car sounds fine, some people have had complaints that they sound like daleks when speaking from the car. I would also ask if the TMC for the SatNav (traffic monitoring) is working or not. If it isn't, I would ask the OPC to upgrade it free of charge. These topics have been discussed a few times on the forum so it should be easy to search for them.

I would also assume nothing from the OPC and ensure that it has the full service history - bills if possible as these will mention faults needing rectification at the time of the service. After the experience I've had with brake discs, I would ask them to verify the condition of the discs and pads as these are not covered by the warranty. Again, if you do a search, you'll see that the discs corrode a little too easily and they're expensive items.

Also, make sure you get two keys - they're expensive.

That's all I can think of at the moment but I'm sure there will be more posts on this subject.

Congratulations again on your new car - you're going to love it!

Welcome - I think this is an excellent choice of car but then I may be biased.

The March 2007 edition of "911 & Porche World" contained a used 997 buyers guide (pp 90 - 96), well worth a read and will confirm that you have made the right decision.

Check page 4 of the service booklet. This shows the VIN which should match that on the car itself, nearside at the bottom of the windscreen. Check it's a UK supplied car and the date it was delivered. Then check the maintenance record starting page 17. You can't be too careful otherwise you could end up taking the dealer to court like me!

With the Service history, just check when the next one is due...
At 18K and a daily driver it could actually be coming towards a service ! Make sure that it either has been serviced early and stamped or is reflected in the price.. I can assure you the price paid to the previous owner would have been...[]

Before you introduce yourself to the salesman, go straight to the car and go round it together looking for any issues, dents/scratched etc.. sadly I have found my wife to be alot better at finding them than me [:-]
My first car I ever collected had a dent across the rear arch which could been seen through the oily wax they had put on the car... dent devil removed it without a trace - paid for by the dealer.
As other have said, check all the keys are there...

After that, enjoy it and perhaps think about joining the club [:)]

Thanks for the advice guys.

The car was serviced on the 7th March this year which I'll confirm when I go down again on Monday.

Mrs Brown has got eyes like a hawk, so I will instruct her to check the extrerior and interior carefully whilst I look through the paperwork.

How do I join the club?

Thanks
Andy
