Hello Again

Hi,

Just thought I would say hello again, I used to own a 997 C4s and sold it about 12 months ago, I have since jumped into a V8 Vantage then a Bentley GT then a Audi R8 and I am now seeing common sense and getting back into a Porsche.

I did put a deposit down on a turbo last year around the same time as Alex, but I was to impatient and cancelled when I bought my wife a 997 cab. Luckily my local OPC rang me the other day and said they had a new un registered Turbo which was a cancelled order. Went and had a look other the weekend and agreed the deal today, luckily it was the right sort of spec and saved me the decisions and worry that Alex went through!!!

I can't wait now!!!!!!!!!!!

Obviously its welcome back Richard.. and coming back in style [:)]

Im sure I'm not alone in wanting to hear more about your journey over the past 12 months ?? [8D]
Nice selection of motors..

What happended with the R8? Didn't do it for you? Would like to know your impressions...

Congrats on the Turbo - next problem you'll have is finding a stretch of road that you can even begin to exercise those 480 horses on!!

Gary / Alex, You could say a journey!!!!!! I tend to change my cars quite often. The V8 was one of the best looking cars I have ever owned but the performance, handling and size of the car were not right for me. The Bentley was awesome I just felt 20- 30 years older!! The R8 was a great car the performance and driveability were excellent and certainly up there with the 911 but it's an Audi and to small for me. Plus I got just a little bit more money than I paid for the R8 when I sold it, and that's a first and more than likely a last. Really looking forward to getting the turbo only a couple of days

Richard

Have you collected yet? If so it's time to spill the beans on the turbo - any spec/pics? First impressions? Especially after the last three motors.

Peter

Peter,

Collect the car sometime this week, cant wait!

Spec is:

Arctic Silver
Black Leather
Tiptronic
Sunroof
Adaptive Sports Seats
Park Assist
Sport Chrono Plus
Cruise Control
Floor Mats
Telephone Module
Carbon Package
Rear section of centre console in carbon
Door finishers in carbon
Painted side skirts
CD Autochanger.

I did not spec the car and was unsure about the carbon but when I seen it in the flesh I was surprised how good it looked and really broke the dark interior up. Apart from that its near enough what I would have chosen myself. Will try and post some pictures ASAP.

Super spec - looks like a really good package. Give us the lowdown late in the week.

Picked the car up on Saturday really pleased with the service of my local OPC, makes a change even got a few freebies!!! Have not had the chance to drive the car as much as I would like this week[] but loved driving the car over the weekend. Cant belive how rigid the car feels and how well it holds the road. The engine really purrs and just wants you to put your foot down!!! Agreee with most people that a Sports exhaust option would be nice but I must admit that I love the noise just the way it is!!

More as get a chance to drive the car and I will post some pictures when I get her cleaned!!!

I have a July 2007 997/C4S, love the car but would like a bit more power... Have just been proposed by my dealer in France a new TT for delivery end March and willing to part exchange the C4S. The TT has more or less all the options I want except for the "limtited slip rear diff" and brakes.... Are they worth it? Would I notice the difference? have been told that the standard brakes with GT3 pads are better for day to day use?
My main problem is that unfortunately I have not driven a 997TT (though I had tried a 996 when I bought the C4S and a 993 years ago). I have been told that though it has more top end power when the turbos hit, it is a bit disapointing in normal driving as it does not have the same torque low down as the 4S? Is that correct? has anybody compared them and can comment ?
Is it also the right time to take delivery of a new TT? shall I wait a few more months for the new model to be announced?

All comments welcomed,
Francois

PS Have been also proposed a GT2 for delivery end of the year but thought it might be a bit OTT for normal day to day transport

Francois

If your cars are roughly the same sepcification as UK the 997 turbo is "oh my god fast" forget 996 Turbo, its not even in the same league.

In "normall" driving its fairly quick - not much to choose with a stock C2/4 S, by normal I mean feathering the throttle. The minute you give any real flex ofthe accelerator the small turbo kicks in:ROFLMAO:........then the big turbo.......:ROFLMAO:

After a year of driving a C2S x51 an OPC leant me a 99TT for a weekend trip (~1000km) a mixture of motorway, A road and back road driving. it was awsome - not as pure as 2wd in terms of feedback through the wheel/seat of your pants but enough info was provided to be inimately aware of what all 4 wheels were doing.

The whole affiar was accompanied by a low growls/roar fromt he TT not as vicereal as the normally aspirated 6 cyclinder but very pleasing none the less. From outside my wife recond it was louder than my x51 with sports exhaust.

The best was really astonishing on real back roads and rattlled along at mind altering velocities. with absolute confidence, especailly in the twisty bits.

Your comment on the torque I think is slightly coloured - there is such a diffrerence between on boost and off boost torque it can feel relatively slow but only briefly - sorry but it revs sooo quickly that it'd eat a C4 before breakfast

The facelift 997Tt is not due in the UK for nearly anoth year, if the same is true over there do you want to wait that long?

Thanks for your reply, appreciate the feedback.

I assume the specs in France are more or less the same as in the UK. My present C4S has short shift/ sport pack/ Bose/ Extended Navigation/ etc... Is a great car though would like a bit more power and from what you say the TT is in a different league? worth the upgrade?

Problem now, is it worth getting an early delivery in March, or wait till early next year? From what I hear the standard Carrera will get the new engine/ dash board/ blue tooth navigation/ etc... in the fall but will they not do the same in the Turbo even if they don't change the engine till next year? Though a car is not what one would call an investment, would hate to spend close to 116,000 Pds (with all the trim) to find out that the car has lost 30% of its value in 8 months or so as the new model has come out... I'm already taking 10% loss in the trade in after 8 months/ 5,000 miles...

Decisions... decisions...
