Hi Dann & welcome to the forum.

Squeaking grinding noises can be many things. If you could give us more information that would help.

Does it only happen while slowing down?
Is it relative to one particular gear?
Does it continue after slowing down?
Is it relative to slowing down using the engine or using the brakes?
Is it when slowing in a straight line or while slowing turning a particular way?

It happens from about 30mph to stop, i know that my Diff is giving up the ghost i'm in the market for a new gear box also, however i thought it was wheel bearings, but on closer inspection they seem fine.... I'm secretly hoping that it is the diff carrier bearings but im not so sure

  • CV Joints? (Get under the car and see if there is large amount of play in the rear axles)
  • Brake disc guards falling apart?
  • Shock absorbers?
  • Wheel bearings?
  • Is the handbrake properly adjusted?

I have to ask the question... were they new or second hand drive shafts??? also, has the gearbox oil level been checked, and what oil is it running? Some purple stuff Burt Gear sells has cured many a noisy gearbox. What state are the brake backplates in? They frequently corrode around the fixings and make all sorst of weird noises, disproportionatley load!
