Hello and some advice please!

Hi All
Have finally taken the plunge and bought a high mileage 997, which crucially for me, has had a full engine rebuild from Autotstrasse 20k ago. Absolutely LOVE it! Should have been brave enough to make the move previously. There were a couple of niggles on purchase, A/C condensers and starter motor which the dealer cleared up with no issues at all. However the handling isnt right. The guys who looked after my Audi S4 (AMD in Woking) have lots of experience with 911's and tell me the driver side rear shock is not good and that the springs are rusting at the bottom all round. SO - I propose to replace the suspension and am looking for advice/help as to the best set up. The car will be driven exclusively on the road so PASM isnt a big deal for me. Looking forward to hearing back and to my time with a Porsche (I go to my office window and have a look every now and then I am still so excited by it!)

Hi Peter,
Welcome to the Club and 997 Register. [:)]
First of all you would be mistaken to think PASM is for track use only. It is immensely beneficial for "normal" road use too. This is high performance sports car and deserves an optimum chassis setup. What do your guys with plenty of experience with 911's advise?

You will find a lot of differing opinions on suspension systems on this forum, but whether it is a replacement stock setup or aftermarket kit you are looking for, you could no better than speak to Chris Franklin at Center (sic) Gravity - 01827 718800. He specialises in 911's and is consultant/chassis engineer to many enthusiasts on this forum.

This is a subject always of interest to our members, so please let us know how it goes.

I think I have settled on a solution however before I finally push the button I am waiting for a call from Centre Gravity.

Currently my thinking is to go with Bilstein B8 Damptronic Shocks and Eibach springs. This will retain the PASM and should still give me comfort enough for the road. I intend to change all the bushes and the top mounts as well.

Hopefully, as the bodywork and interior are in super nick and the brakes have just been changed, I will have a high mileage 997 that will feel fresh and can se me through some time as my daily driver??!!

I can thoroughly endorse Chris Franklin at Centre of Gravity. He transformed the handling of my previous 997 . Well worth the cost and a really nice guy.

Another vote for Chris if he cannot sort it nobody can ??,
best £300 I have spent for a long time.

Have spoken with Chris today. What an absolute belter of a guy!! Once the kit is installed (now going to be B6 Bilsteins with standard length Eibach Springs thanks to Chris) my car will be having a trip to Centre Gravity for a final tune up!!

I cannot speak too highly of both his attitude and professionalism!

Well I'm booked in for a set up session with Centre Gravity in early November. Will absolutely post my results here.
