Hello fellow Boxster owners

Hi Everyone, just thought I would say hi... I am a new owner of an 03 Boxster 2.7 tiptronic in red... Bought it from Porsche UK in Reading last week...

It's only done 15,000 miles!

I PX'd a Mini Cooper S for it and have loved ever minute of driving it.

Quick question though the salesman mentioned that I must smooth out the plastic rear window when putting the roof down to avoid cracking... I thought it was a bit odd at the time, is this really true? Seems a bit strange that it has an automatic roof and you have to make sure it retracts properly!

Pete

Yes it's true, commonly known as the Boxster chop.

horizontal chop in the middle of the pastic bit so that it creases correctly and reduces issues with cracking.

Hi. And welcome. An 03 Box with a plastic rear window? Glass from 52 reg onwards I thought.

You would know of course Pete. Having the evidence to hand... [:D]

Actually that's a good point. The facelift came in at '52 so yes you'd normally find a glass screen in the back of an '03. Maybe it was an unregistered '02 that a customer decided against and it wasn't finally registered until after March '03.

Hmmm Regarding evidence, I have a superstition about taking pictures of my car, when I had my very first car (now don't laugh) a beige Nissan Sunny 20 odd years ago I took a picture of the car, and a day later I wrote it off. So from then on I don't take any pictures of my vehicles. Not sure if this makes any difference, but my car is the 220HP version.

220 - So it's a 2.7 then.

This is my old '02 2.7 (Pre-faclift) with plastic rear screen. The face-lift, if I remember (others - please correct me) had a glass rear screen, a revised front bumper (different air intakes) and clear indicators and light lenses along with a few mods to the inside. Including cup holders and glove box by the passenger footwell.

Mine was 228 and I think the facelift was even more.

Yep. Fair summary of the facelift updates.
I'm intrigued. Pete. Do you have any of the facelift options? The telling one is the glove box on the passenger side. Some owners retro fit some of the facelift bits and bobs - noteably, new light lenses. I would have thought that most people would draw the line at changing the interior fittings to include a glovebox though.

Well mine doesn't have the cup holder or glove box... Very strange! Maybe my one was a 52 plate one that didn't sell until 03 came out

Aha! That's the clincher i think. Pre-face lift.

Whatever. With only 15k on the clock I'm sure its a super example. You will enjoy it loads. :p

Never quite grasped the UK vehicle registration system. You can have a model year 2002 that somehow ends up being called a 2003. You can have a model year 2005 987 that ends up being called a 2004.

Anyway, here is the Boxster Chop, but don't try this at home.
