morning all.....I joined up last year when I picked up my 86 turbo. it went into storage a week later due to other projects and time issues and only came out yesterday....after eleven months in storage, turned the key and the little beauty jumped straight into life....made it the whole fifty yards from the storage doors to the trailer without spilling any fluids, although this maybe because it dumped them all on the way to storage last year....

got it back to the workshop, gave it a clean up and a bit of a polish....over the next couple of months its strip back time, the interior is like a womble cave so needs deep steam cleaning and possibly new carpets etc, everything that forms a connection on the engine, each water, oil, power steering hose pipe etc needs to be checked and probably replaced....I've been too scared to look underneath it to check what state the sills are in...got to MTFU and do that at the weekend....

so in a nutshell...it looks pretty from a distance but is leaking underneath from most places, gearbox, power steering, coolant, engine oil....[:D] needs some love....

90k on the clock...and the digital clock works......[8D]

welcome gavin and heres a question for you. Whats the additional gauge for under the ICE ? Car looks like a good investment although you bought the wrong colour lol[;)]

I love 1986 Turbos, but that car is crying out for the correct 23mm offset 16" 7" & 8" telephone dials wheels.... The light grey (grey-beige) carpets will come up like new, if you have the nerve to take them out and give them a damned good steam cleaning. Simon

Looks suspiciously like an aftermarket boost gauge to me … I wonder if there’s an extra horsepower or two lurking in the boost system?

Good to see an early turbo getting some TLC - and yes that aftermarket boost gauge does hint at a few tweaks possibly having being made to her at some point...

yes the PO took the turbo out and put a Lux motor in .........[:D] I must have missed the bit about Turbo doh![:(]

Good find Gavin. Are you based in Neatherlands? I like the two tone interior. Keep us up to date with how the sills are looking. I'm my experience, leaks are ok, holes and rust is bad. Good luck !

Welcome back Gavin and it's nice to see you're getting the old girl going again. I look forward to the updates [:)]

Must have exported the Turbo or you have have a thing for importing Dutch cars to the UK lol Would you believe the guy I bought my '44 from has recently exported 2 turbo's to Holland, is there something of a shortage over there?? Look forward to seeing the car make it back to the road [;)]

cheers all... yes, it is an aftermarket boost gauge.....there were mutterings from the seller about it having the turbo from the 250bhp 944, would that be a k28? not sure how reliable he was though....could have been sales patter....need to find the ecu at some point and check the chip as well, how do I know what an original chip looks like? the interior is getting dragged out for a steam and shampoo clean in a couple of weeks...can't wait to see what's underneath. I am in Amsterdam, I buy all my cars from the UK though as the price difference is huge....there is a 'luxury' import tax on cars when you import them but it's on a sliding scale as they get older so still cheaper to buy in UK and drive over. I think the equivalent turbo over here would be 6-7k minimum euros, I paid 2,7 for this.

220 turbo was a k26/6, 250 turbo was a k26/8. The 250 turbo looks like this (the small one not the big one) the 220 turbo doesn't have that big flat area with the details plaque on at the front. It has a smaller rectangular plaque. You should be able to see it pretty easily without taking anything off. p.s. no need to be so harsh on the old girl it looks like you've got a real good one there. I'm sure you can excuse a few leaky seals after all those years and its easy to put that right[:)] good find.
