Hi there,

Just wanted to say "hi".
My name's Dan, I've signed up as I'm toying with the idea of a Porsche.
Currently running a VW Golf GTI, with an Audi S4 Avant prior to that.

Thinking of a 996 to scratch that itch as the GTI just ain't quick enough!!
It will probably be a "long" weekend car, as I'm also looking at Volvo V50 D5 estate - got dogs & kids and I'm in a band!

My background (as I'm doing the introduction!) is that I'm a Music Technology Programme Manager at a Further Education college in rural Herefordshire - got quite a mad history in the Music Business too [:D]
I also play in a band called the Funkatronic Love Commandos (we do funk and disco covers)
In my free time, I'm also a music composer, and I've done a few cool things (imho), and I like my cars. I'm also looking at a F348ts (is this a swear-word in Porsche circles? [:D])

I'm 38, married with 2 kids and 2 dogs! Into my gaming and sport (does Golf count?) such as Mountain Biking.

So why am I here? Looking to expand my social circle [:)] and seek advice from those in the know about Porsche! Hopefully have a few laughs at the same time.

So, that's pretty much me in a nutshell - looking forward to meeting you, having some good chats and taking part in the forum [:)]

All the best,

Dan

Have a good look at a 996 Turbo lots to choose from between £20 -30k, excluding radiators and condensers not a lot goes wrong with them and the maintenance costs and repair bills will be a lot less than a ferrari to run and more than enough speed for most.

Thanks for the comments [:)]

Need to go a drive one first - only Porsche I've driven was a 944 S2 a fair while back. I sat in C2s, but it was unfair as it was in a Ferrari showroom (kid in sweetshop syndrome!)

There's a few local to me, so I'm going to look at the all, but I'm interested more so in a 996 C2s or Turbo.... not sure yet.

Don't worry - I'll use the "search" first before asking daft questions.

I'm guessing the Bose will sound like my Audi - if so, I'll be chuffed as it's THE one system I've never messed with [8D]

Ahh, and so the research begins [8|]

Dan

Welcome. I did the same as you and joined the forum and club before buying...very useful. If you're looking at a 996, then try to push for a Turbo...you weren't regret it, for many reasons. Then I supposed I am biased!

Hi Dan

Just buy one. You've got to itch that scratch.

I think you will love it whatever you buy, just take your time and look at lots of them. Follow the advice of people here and talk to as many specialists as you can. I was lucky and found a guy who knows sports cars, having owned and sold just about every kind. He gave me clear sound advice without the usual Pistonheads type rhetoric or the gushing enthusiasm such as you might get from a Porsche nut.

Buy a good one with a complete service history and you won't be disappointed. I've got a C2 and I love it but I do often wonder what a Turbo would be like. That's the beauty of ownership of such cars, there is always an upgrade path available. I know that my next car will have forced induction, but it just might be supercharged.

Regards

Welcome Dan - I'm in Solhull if you want a run out and look round a turbo

Welcome Dan. Which gti do you have? I'm a big fan (had 9).

Is your car mapped yet Jon?

My turbo is for sale at the moment. It's as tidy an example of a turbo as you could find, there are a few members on here who can vouch for the way it drives and there is always room for discussion on the price.

Dan id consider bens car!

Ben - no decided to wait till march april when the weather gets better

C2 has bigger boot than C4/Turbo.

I'm into golf too, and clubs fit nicely across the back seats folded down. A powacaddie twinline 3 push trolley also fits the boot with room for shoes / balls etc. etc.

Have fun searching!
