Hello from a very happy new owner

Hello all.

This is my first post on here as I'm now the very happy owner of a black 944 S2 (and subsequently a new member of the PCGB). After looking for a good S2 for quite some time my wife and I snapped up our first Porsche from Portiacraft last Monday, and I've been having much more enjoyable trips to work ever since [:)]. I was really pleased to find an S2 in such good condition with great history together with tasteful 968 mirrors handles and tailgate.

Now I just need to decide on a suitable replacement for the steering wheel as it's leather bears the hallmarks of 15 years (give or take, as one previous owner used a 968 CS wheel) of use.

I'm looking forward to participating in the club and register almost as much as the next time I take the S2 out for a drive [:)].

Bye for now,

Matthew

Hi Matthew

Welcome to the world of Porsche ownership.

If you are anything like me you will find any and every excuse to drive your new aquisition with the exception of taking the rubbish out to the bin at the bottom of the garden [:D]

I am sure you will make lots of new friends on this forum and within the club.

Hi!
Welcome to the forum. Sounds good, post a pic when you get the chance.
I have often craned my kneck to see what they have in stock when passing Portiacraft. I was thinking of maybe servicing my car with them. From your experience with them, what do you think?
Happy motoring!
Cheers

Spookily thats where my first Porsche came from as well.

Welcome to the club Matthew. Not too much happens in the winter, but that will just give you a chance to gird your loins ready for the mayhem of summer.

Get out in the car lots so that you can break anything that might break before subjecting it to the micky taking of the rest of the club. At my first big club event (Camping at Bramhan Park) the alarm went u/s and kept going off anouncing my whereabouts to all of the camp site. To make things worse I then had to call an RAC van - twice!!

Above all else remember the following:-

"If it ain't broke - fix it 'till it is."

Welcome Matthew, we've had our black S2 for six years now and it is part of the family. It's early days but sounds like you have a good example with some nice extras, a lot of peoples first posts always include a list of minor things that need sorting. As John said, get used to driving it as often as you can and we look forward to seeing you at future events.

Keep an eye on the forum as someone often organises something at short notice, whereabouts in the country are you?

Thanks for the welcome chaps.

Portiacraft - I haven't had any dealings with them regarding servicing so can't really comment on that. They were very professional and efficient dealing with the sale however.

I work in Guildford and live about 20 miles south on the Hampshire/Surrey/West Sussex border, so I'm not quite sure what PCGB region I'll be in, but I'll definitely check the forum regularly to see what is going on.

And thanks to Paul I've just now sourced a CS steering wheel, so the modifications haven't taken long to start :).

I'm yet to take pictures of the S2 (waiting for a chance to order some Zymol and Swissol to make the most of her) but I'll post them up as soon as I do.

I would suggest you try all those you can comfortably get to.
I go to all the above regions, and they all have a different "feel" to them. You might find one (or more) that suit you better than any other. As a member, you are welcome to attend ANY regions meetings.

Why not come to Essex next Tuesday - we have a talk from our Acting Register Secretary on performance driving. Should be interesting.

As well as that you could come to Sussex tomorrow night - we have a member giving a talk and showing video footage of his racing eploits in the Porsche Open race series.

Here are the details:

Henry Firman (of 911 Virgin fame) is coming to the next meeting (Tuesday 2nd November).
He will show videos of his racing exploits and talk about racing in the Porsche Open championship.

Starts 8:30 at the usual venue:

The Gardeners Arms, Ardingly, (situated opposite the South of England Show Ground).

All welcome

You want to go to that then. He usually turns up with a car full of Top Totty [8D][;)]

Welcome Matthew on the purchase of a car that i have no doubt will continue to keep the grin on your face , well most of the time barring when you're wallet has to open - had mine for about a year now and found the people on here to be extremely helpful and knowledgeable and have enjoyed attending a couple of Lancashire meeting and also looking forward to at last attending some events next year .

And with regards to Mark, John - 911 virgin man turning up with ' top totty ' now for my route finder - Preston to Ardingly [;)]

Hey Matthew, welcome to the merry band.

Watch the boys on here though, they'll have you spending all of your pennies on mods to the car [;)]

Hi Andy, yes it's started already - I'm rather looking forward to putting the CS wheel on [:)].

Mark, that meeting sounds good but unfortunately work commitments mean I won't be able to make it. I'll try to make it to the next meeting though, I'll take your advice and look around as many as possible to see which one suits.

Don't take your 944 to any meeting attended by our 'Enery [:D]

If you watch his racing videos you'll see why when you spot a poor 944 harpooned by Fast Firmin at Snetterton []
