Hi,

I'm Currently in the process of sticking a turbo front end on my 87 Lux, I dont have the money for a pair of wings at the moment as im sorting out her mechanics, i dont suppose anyone would like to make me a cardboard template of where the bumper meets the wing do they? and maybe mail it to me ;)

so i can cut it out and make her nice :)

many thanks dann

Dann,
What exactly did you want to see? The mounting places for the bumper or wing/PU joint?
David

yes the wing Pu joint/seam, i know its a strange request but i have series 1 wings on mine and have to modify them to fit :)

Cheers

Dann

Dann,

I think there are conversion kits to do what you are trying to do ... try one of them. It will be easier and quite possibly cheaper.

(Alternatively, live with the existing front end. You could easily end up spending more on the project than the extra cost of an S2, and I have never understood the logic of making one car look like another. But I do appreciate that this is a personal preference, and you may think ofherwise.)

Oli.

I trust you are aware that it isn't just the front PU and wings that are different? The badge panel has a different curve - it is more pronounced on the S2/Turbo front, and will leave a gap between teh badge panel and bumper. I believe, but do not know for sure, that the headlight coveres are also different to match.
Whilst the badge panel is bolt on on the S2 (and the Turbo?) it is welded on on the early cars, so not so easily interchangeable.
As such, I would have thought that an aftermarket "Turbo front" designed for an earlier car would be a better bet.

Tref... who would much prefer a Turbo in an early shape shell!

yes, matey i have all the parts for this conversion, my badge plate is bolted on, ive done all the checks, its cost me about 300 to do so far and i dont really want to spend another 400 on wings and then have to paint them,

all im asking is if someone will make a cardboard template for me :)

plus after i put this front end on the car is going to be having and Audi V8 installed

so its never going to be standard :)

Top man...........[8D]

Keep us posted (photos too)

Yup will do, I figured that i'd used an audi V8 as its an alloy engine ;) save the weight :D

And I thought it would be something to do with the bellhousing bolts lining up! At least they do on the old Audi 5 cylinder engines...

even better i had no idea of that :) but i do wanna keep the weight down, now to find some one to help me ;)

Somewhere I have photos of an Audi 5 cylinder Turbo and 944 'box side by side. I had a good look at the differences - no gear linkage tunnel on the Audi, different input shaft spline spacing - I can't remember if there was a diameter difference now or not, gear linkage brackets different... ribs on the casting different... but very similar part numbers, and with a different clutch plate, I would hazard that engines/gearboxes could be mix and matched without adapter plates or heavy machining.

I don't know if the later Audi engines are any different... but it might influence your choice. I have always hankered to go the other way... '44 engine in an Audi estate.

The engine i would probably go for is out of a 2002 car, i have no idea what the performance is like on these engines but i need to do some more research.... if it all goes tits up i'll get a Turbo :)
