Hello all

i wanted to introduce myself. I’m Simon (Sid) and I have just become the owner of ZiZi our little 2004 986 (2.7).

Just finished a wash and polish of her today. Just the interior to go tomorrow. I didn’t wash the soft top (I saw another post here advising to only wash every now and again - thanks for that) Although I have noticed the the roof is rubbing - does this happen when down and folded away and is this normal?

Also I have what I can only describe as a crazing to the paint of the front bumper. I bought the car knowing I had to get this sorted. Has anyone else had this? Do you know what might have caused this? I can post another picture later.

One final thing I wanted to install DAB/Bluetooth but want to keep my stock CD-R 23. Has anyone installed a Pure Highway 600. If so can I pick your brains please?

thanks in advance everyone. Love seeing your cars ??

Hello Sid and welcome to the club.

Re your roof. On the older ie 986 Boxster's it is quite common to find that areas the roof material appears as though it has been rubbed. It is possible to reduce this pilling effect in the same manner as your would on a jumper. ie Take a wet razor and run it gently over the area to remove the high spots. Whilst this will not completely remove all the pilling it will improve it. After doing this don't forget to apply some waterproofing agent (I recommend Fabsil Gold - paint on not spray)

The crazing on the front bumper PU. Once again this is not uncommon. This could have been caused by a minor bump which has over time turned into a 'spider type' web craze. If you plan to get it repaired I would recommend. Since this is a high impact area for stone chips (of which you may already have a few) I would ask your repairer to add some blue to the undercoat when doing the fix. Doing this will mean that next time you get a stone chip instead of the normal base undercoat (a light colour) showing through it will be roughly the same as your top coat thus not drawing your eye towards it.

Sorry I cant answer your question re DAB etc but am sure someone on here will.

Enjoy your car, it looks great!

Hi Sid congratulations on your new car and welcome to PCGB.
What colour is the interior looks identical to one of my wifes previously owned Boxsters.
Johns answers are spot on sorry also can't help with Hi Fi.
Enjoy your car.

Thanks John.

That’s really helpful. I do want to clean the roof properly at some stage as I have some greenish spots. Do you have any cleaners you’d recommend. Thanks for the heads up on fabsil.

I guessed as much re the bumper and queried this when buying the guy but the previous owner denied that he had ever bumped it. But what with car parks etc I imagine it could have happened anywhere/anytime. I now need to find a good bodyshop or independent in West Sussex (Hampshire, Surrey and East Sussex doable)

No worries re the dab - I’m going to look at this this weekend. As I plan to use her as a daily driver I want some way to connect my phone. I don’t fancy points and fines. ??

Have a great weekend

Hi Cliff

Thank you! The colour of the interior is Graphite Grey. I think it’s a lovely combination. I’m going to clean it this weekend (as well as fitting my DAB/Bluetooth). ??????

Have a good weekend

Cool [;)]
Not the wifes old one then her one had full Metropole blue leather int with ruffed heated seats.
Enjoy

If the green spots are mould/moss type marks then milton tablets ( the ones you use to sterilise baby bottles) diluted down works well to get rid of them, have a google for various tips for application etc.

As to general cleaning and water proofing - in 16 years of convertible ownership, I have only ever cleaned my roof with plain water ( running hose ) and a clean sponge - giving it a good scrub. Others use various products ( there will be a range of options ). Waterproofing - again - seems to be fabsil is the goto - but again.... never done it, the roofs have waterproof membranes in them, they don't "need" proofing as such but a lot of folk want to do it.

Thanks Paul

Once I defluff I suppose there’s no harm to waterproof. Excellent tip re Milton. I wonder if theres anything which would stop the green spots?

This is my first soft top so I suppose I want to ensure I’m doing the right thing and looking after my car as best as I can.

try the Milton on the spots. Unless the actual fabric colour has faded you may find it resolves the issue.

if not then a colour restorer will be needed.
