To be honest when I first drove a 993, it did feel old fashioned inside, but, and a big but, it felt so well made, solid, a real hand made quality to it. But it's performace(Not old fashioned) was a league ahead of my previous Audi S4 4.2. I have never driven a 930, or the 964 varients so I cant comment on the single turbo's characteristics. But all the quirky aspects of air cooled 911's really do become there charm, and in a very short space of time. So dont be woried about meeting your hero, also it isnt just the performance that gets under your skin, its the way they handle, the way they turn in, stop, go, ect.
One thing I could not get my head around being a 911 rookie 6 years ago was the Oil. They stink of oil, like an old dog leaving its scent around, but they are robust, ive had an oil thermostat housing leaking for two years now,not badly though.
Ill get round to it.[8|]
It also took me a while to be at peace with the whole dry sump thing, being the first car of its type I owned, like checking the oil with the car running and being up to temperature, and learning to ignore that oil level gauge. I nearly over filled it when I first got it. A Real Rookie.[

There's alot of pressure going through those car's so oil leaks and seals going can be common.
Servicing isnt really a big deal, depend's on where you go. Porsche centre cambridge's fixed service,6000 mile oil service £210, Big service £790. Independents are gona be cheaper, and are often just as, if not more expererienced, so just shop around.
My turbo is due a new clutch, but its the first one ive had to replace after around 25,000 miles and six years of ownership.
Porsche centre cambridge quoted me £2250.00, and RPM technic quoted me £1150.00 fitted inc vat, you get the picture.
It you do go looking for one,be patient and keep your eye's peeled on finding the right car with lots of history. Go to the club nights and talk to the members, they will welcome you with open arms.
