Hello, suspension advice sought!

first time poster and new 944 owner here, seeking some advice. Between three of us we currently have an '87 944 Turbo (that we track) and an '85 944 Lux that we take turns using at weekends!
Both cars are in reasonable order and so far pretty reliable but the suspension on the Turbo is simply too soft for track use, what recommendations do people have for uprating the suspension. Its unlikely it will ever go back on the road so the set up needn't have any 'compromise'.

Btw, I am still in awe of these cars, I had never driven one until this year and I am still amazed, even by modern standards the balance of these cars is incredible. Probably the first occassion ever where everything I'd heard and read previously would appear to be true...just my opinion of course [;)]

I envy you for having the choice of a track only setup [:D]. Depending upon the weight of the car is I would think you'd be shooting for approximately 600+ lb/ft springs for the front (although this is arguably a little stiff for somewhere like the Nurburgring and not stiff enough for the fastest lap times on smoother tracks). The rear could be sorted with uprated torsion bars (I'm assuming you can get them stiff enough), with helper springs (as I use) or by deleting the torsion bars altogether (may require reinforcement in the area of the mountings).

One option you may want to consider given the track only nature of the car is you could drill holes in the sills so you can access the torsion bars much more easily, we thought about this with mine (968 trims could cover the holes) but decided against it in the end. However it could save you time during setup if you keep the torsions.

I would also whack the thickest ARB's you can get on too, even the 968 M030's would make a big difference (I'd also recommend the KLA ARB brackets too).

One of the biggest changes you could make to give the car a very pointy feeling is to replace all the bushes for rose joints. I've recently installed rose jointet top plates and cannot believe how different the steering feels. It used to feel very slow as if you had to turn the wheel a hell of alot just to ge a relatively small amount of turn in, but now it is razor sharp and gives you so much more feel mid-corner. I can't imagine what it must be like if you were to replace all the bushings with rose joints.

I think we will go for the 'uncomprising' solution, I currently race an XR2 in Stockhatch with 700lb rear springs so I'm used to coming off the track with my teeth shaken loose [:)] and now I'm getting a feel for the 944 I can imagine just how good a well sorted one is!
 
By the way on the 'Living with KW 1 month on' thread Nick_968 says he's got a pair of Racers Edge camber plates for sale.

+ 1 on KW's and RacersEdge stuff. Then when you get that sorted buy a set of larger wheels and get some Toyo R888's or the like. You will take gobs off your best times to date....promise.[:D]

No 92, its Paul Coulams old car, red and silver and very, well 'stockhatchy' looking!

Seconded......................on mine the KW`s are great but the lack of roll with the WM ARB`s really plants the car with even tyre wear.
