Welcome. [:)] Where are you based? As posted before my Lux is for sale and might fit the bill. Briefly, it needs tidying body-work wise but if it's for a track car this isn't really an issue, and has the usual little niggles like clock not working. Plus side it's got a really nice interior that would make good money if you were stripping the car out, lots of history and is pretty good mechanically. It'd be within budget, too.

ORIGINAL: pixieporsche You can get a 2.5 lux with an oval dash [:D] Good luck in finding your perfect '44
Lol, just re-read OP. Yep, the oval dash is the more modern one fitted from the 1985.5 model year. Earlier cars have the old 924 interior and are all 2.5 N/A engine Lux model. All the later Lux, S, S2 and turbo models are oval-dash. [:)]

Hi Guys
Firstly hello! I'm new to the forum!
Im considering buying a Porsche 944 to convert into a track day car. I was looking at the newer oval dash model but having read a few reviews it seems the 944Lux is a better buy, opinions on this would be good? I have a tight budget and would want to spend around £1,500 on buying the car. I'm in no hurry so its just a case of waiting for the right car to come along, If you know of any cars that may be of interest please post a link.
I do enjoy a project but I'm after a car that runs well! No knocking gearboxes or smokey exhausts!
It is also worth mentioning that I'm not after a rocket! just a nice nippy car. My current cars are a Land Rover Series 3 and a Mercedes A class so im sure it will be a lot quicker than both of them.

Oliver

[:)] Sorry I realize the oval dash is the more recent one, I'm confusing myself I have read so many reviews! I was talking about the 2.5Lux. Im in North Oxfordshire so pretty central but I wouldn't want to travel too far. Oliver

Than you're not far from me in South Bucks. [:)] See ad here: [link=http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=463834&mpage=1&key=&#463834]http://www.porscheclubgbforum.com/tm.asp?m=463834&mpage=1&key=&#463834[/link]

I bought a 86' D oval dash 2.5 Lux in January of this year specifically as a track day/sunday car. I paid £1500 for mine with 150,000 miles (belts just done) and a good service history. Since then I've spent roughly £750 on disc's and pads, exhaust, window regulator, wheel spacers, a service and a few other bits and bobs. I drive a Range Rover Sport day to day so it's really nice to drive the Porsche as it handles properly. It's not the fastest thing in the world, however once it's rolling it'll keep up with most modern hot hatches etc. The only down side for me is that it bogs down a little if you're not in low enough a gear, but once you learn what gear you should be in then it's good fun. One thing that's an added bonus is that my drum kit fits in it! Very practical! I'm going to the track day at Silverstone on the evening of 14th July which I guess isn't that far from you. From memory it starts at 5:30pm until it gets dark and is the full GP circuit. The guys on the forum have been very welcoming and have suggested to come along and watch to see what goes on. I would imagine that I'll be booking myself on the next one! Good luck with your search! James
