hi people, took delivery of 1997 ocean metallic blue 993 C'S', on saturday, after many months of searching and negotiations, but finally did it!!!!

the car is all that i believed it would be and more. met up with 11 other r7 members yesterday, and put 130 miles on the car, 'driving' around the glorious bakwaks of derbyshire( check out the yorkshire forum to see the photos). havent had so much fun for ages, the car behaved faultlessly, and didnt miss a beat, which gratified me enormously, as this was the cars first real test, with me behind the wheel. truly awesome[:)][:)][:)]

one query which i hope you can advise on.....the tyre pressures recommended in the book are 36/44 which i thought were high, even bearing in mind the size/profile of the rubber. the tyres were running on 34/40 when i put the additional air in. so, when pushing on a bit yesterday, well, ok, a lot, the car felt a bit 'skittish' in the swervy bits. no big dramas , but my immediate thought process was 'overinflated tyres', wot do you guys think??? is wot i experienced normal when going a bit, or were the original pressures more suitable?????

in any event i am delighted with my new purchase, it really does bring a massive smile to my face[:D][:D][:D]

Glad you are pleased with the new arrival. I saw it briefly in the car park at the Plough in Hathersage on Sunday. Sweet!!!!

The 993 is the only way to fly!!!

although I don't run 18's, the std pressures are fine, even though at 44psi on the back can seem high in anyone's book !

although I do know owners who drop the PSI a few points to improve the ride quaility on those LOW profile tyres..

In theory you should keep to the OEM tyre pressures as this is what your car is set up for and there are drawbacks to lowered tyres pressures

although when I have done track days on lowered tryres pressures it has meant a better response & balance from the 911! but I'm still experimenting on my track day tyre pressures...

yes i find that 44 in the rear is way way too high. i normally run 40 in the rear with about 30/32psi in the front.
there is soo little weight in the front that a little less psi in the front will not matter mugh to thread ware.
if you are heading onto track, take a tip.......... run a few laps to let the air / tyres heat up, then drop down to 28 front. and as low as 36 psi to the rear. the difference in grip is apsolutly astonishing.
one word of warning is re-inflate the tyres to normal pressure when heading off the track and back to the road.

this isnt gospel, just my experience,
i once had the rears running at 44psi on track,,,,,,,,,tyres headed up and , result ?? !!.............bald tyres in about 10 laps.

The recommended pressures other than being on the high side are also at 20 degrees.

Try 36 in the rear and anything from 28 - 34 in the front. Experimentation is the answer.
 
thanks guys, after your comments, this appears to be a 'suck it and see' situation, i think i will be reducing the pressures in due course, but only after many long hours of research.....life can be such a bitch at times[:D]
