Hi all,

I'm a new owner of a 997 (gen 1) Turbo Tiptronic S Cabriolet and a new Porsche GB club member.

I'd be keen to know of anyone's experiences with tuning the Metzger engine, especially if they have experience of DMS's tune.

I have discussed with a Porsche mechanic and he has been very positive about their tune from their experiences and considers it's a 'no brainer'.

Thanks

Dan

If the TT isn't quick enough for you to lose your licence fast enough then a few guys here have had theirs tuned to go even more insanely fast [:D] DMS are one , Alex had his beefed up elsewhere to staggering levels of bhp/ torque pm him and I am sure he will help you out

Remember that tuning will effect or invalidate any warranties on the car. it would also be a good idea to talk it over with who ever will be looking after the car as they will need to maintain the upgrade and any effects it has on the systems.

Welcome Dan, Glad to have you aboard. Once your PCGB membership has been processed, I'll be in touch with some useful info on our 997 Register. In the meantime, if there's anything you need just let me know. The 911 can be a bit of a handful to new owners so it may be worth putting a few miles on and perhaps coming along to 1 or 2 of our 997 Register driving events before you start modifying. On the other hand, if you are already an experienced Porsche driver, I'm sure members such as Alex L and okellyt, both who have much experience in modifying 997's, will be able to advise on improvements to engine and chassis. Looking forward to meeting up at one of our events soon. Clive, 997 Register Secretary.

Hi, thanks for the welcome and advice, membership has now been processed and I've added the number to the profile. I've owned a fair few high performance cars previously inc an RS6, M3, XKR, XFS to name a few although this is my first 911. I grew up in them though so I'm pretty familiar with Porsches. :) I'd be keen to come along to some events soon but I do plan to move ahead with DMS's standard ECU tweak. They're estimating it to be approx 580bhp when complete with a similar torque figure. I'll provide the rolling road data once it's been through. I'm not currently on planning any physical changes to the car, but the ECU tweak seemed an easy choice after discussing with a current Porsche engineer who holds it in high regard. Obviously the 4WD helps with the power, I've been out and about it most days. Current garage: 997 Turbo Tiptronic S Cabriolet (DMS ECU upgrade inbound) Jaguar XF S Mk2.5 MX5 S-VT (Sport) Toyota RAV4 Hopefully look forward to meeting some of you at future events! Cheers Dan

Hi Dan, Welcome from the Forum too and, quick as a flash, I have changed your status![:)] Good luck with the upgrade![;)] If you have a Twitter account you can follow us there too @PCGB_997

580BHP & tiptronic 'box? [&:] I think I'd be taking advice before proceeding with that! [] Regards, Clive

According to this.. http://www.vividracing.com/catalog/vivid-racing-1000hp-tiptronic-transmission-upgrade-porsche-996-997-turbo-p-87479.html the factory tip 'box is good for 700bhp. But surely it's the torque that's the main issue - which I believe to be limited at 700nm (516 ft lbs)? I think the stock engine is 620nm (460 ft lbs) http://www.nineexcellence.com/tuning/transmissions/index.html

I wouldn't recommend going over 525 HP without also upgrading the exhaust and air intake filter so the engine can breathe well enough to accommodate the extra power. Cargraphic do a whole range of performance kits: http://www.cargraphicts.com/index.php?id=93103&L=1 You can see what parts you need with what power.

Hi, DMS's thoughts on the Tiptronic gearbox: The tiptronic has a very high torque limit, the figure will change dependent upon what source you access, they could handle well over 1000Nm of torque however they are calculated to a figure that would survive over 200k miles of regular spirited driving which would equate to around 800nm. In terms of the 997TT: The 997TT is probably one of our most popular modifications, we regularly take the 997.2 to over 612bhp and our own development 997.1 is now running around 800bhp. Dan
