Hello R20 --- apart from ACE CAFE Meets, Static Display @ Brooklands, are there ANY MORE R20 events...? (excuse the stupid question)...

Not a stupid question at all. Give Kish a call, he can update you on all the R20 events and e-mail anything that's too short notice to go in Porsche Post.

Also, keep an eye out for other local regions. You're welcome to attend any of them, I regularly go to Thames Valley, Chilterns and Essex as well as London.

Thxs Paul... I have read the latest PP and nothing new apart from what I have posted...

I scan the forum everyday for other regions as well... cheers !

Sadly, apart from those you mention there are few if any other R20 organised events.
The region's active members however run a series of events which last year included two French weekends at Honfleur and Montreil, Camping at PCGB LM 24 hrs, Isle of Man trip, Silverstone circuit Instruction, Goodwood breakfasts, various race meetings, day rides and Pistonheads activities. Normally between six and ten cars attend.
For 2010 The LM Classic is booked, staying in Chateau at Le Ponce sur Loire, Weekend to Bruges in March, LM 24 HRS at the new club camp to be sorted soon, Scotland tour in September and a programme of stuff as and when.
Most finalised at Fatboys Diner, next meeting Sat next 13.00.
We'll try to post some pics from 2009 shortly.

I know that John C is disappointed he can't make it [;)] but the Bruges trip is happening 27/28 Feb. We have 8 cars going but perhaps the hotel could squeeze a couple more in if there are more interested?!

BTW - if anyone is interested... there's a (largish) bunch of us going to Waddensdon Manor on Sunday 14th March for a breakfast meet... details can be found @ www.911uk.com...

I know some of the guys on here also frequent that forum too ...

Not least the Spa PCF 15-17 April (see thread here) long weekend trip which I tried to encourage R20 Members following strong demand from R20 attendees .....

As well as RAS 27th Feb ... see thread here ....

As well annual Tayyabs Xmas Curry TBA ....

These and other events don't always make PP or get official R20 Status and as above with other events are sometimes arranged in local groups ....

Sorry Des, omitted to mention SPA on the list for 2010.
We will be deciding on arrangements for this weekend at Fatboys on Saturday.

Fantastic Event John ..... if you need any other help or tips just call or mail me.

I must admit I have been a bit disappointed with the amount of events coming from R20, considering the size of London shouldnt we be setting the standard?

Come on R20! What about a concours? Organised local runs? OPC/specialists open days?

Perhaps a few more ideas?

I'm willing to help out if required...

There are occasional runs such as the tunnel run, but organised drives in convoy do take a lot of organising and involve the local authorities and police. The PCs do regular days, but speak to Kish about helping as I'm sure he'd be happy to have an extra body.

Don't forget other regions as well. Things like, for instance, the Hatfield PC and JZ open evenings are R21, but get a lot of London people there as well.

Firstly there is a misconception that London is everything inside M25 (or almost all of London boroughs); it is just members inside North/South Circular (and Richmond was added many years back as the RO back then was based in Richmond); currently the region has some 600 members and a very small proportion are actually active members, the rest have the Porsches in garages in Chelsea, KnightsBridge, Mayfair, etc. :)

The largest region if you are interested is Thames Valley which covers all the way into London i.e. anything outside West North/South Circular and M25 plus Reading and West of M25. I have not got a straight answer on why London split up many years back and believe me I have really tried hard to get London region to be members who are active and want to attend meets and events which is pretty much the cluster just outside North/South Circular area i.e. Barnet, Harrow, Ealing, Twickenham, Richmond (included in London), Hounslow, Kingston, Sutton, Croydon, Bromley, Bexley, Havering, Redbridge, Waltham Forest, Enfield, etc which are not currently London region as far as the club is concerned.

Concours: We have tried this every year and just got 5-6 cars; they are all joined concours with other region. We have so far gone with Cambridge and Hatfield region. Try asking how many in the London region (i.e. inside North/South Circular) actually clean their own car or have a space to clean their own car and the answer to why we don't get a great turnout for concours will be clear.

Organised runs: We used to have tunnel runs but happy to drop you the official rules for organised runs to show why this is not as easy and meeting and driving around. We have recently stopped as they were not in compliance with the law i.e. convoys has to be 12 cars or less (advised 10); you need to inform the local police and the route planned (as Paul covered); if just meeting up and going for the run then it cannot be openly advertised and routes cannot be passed on before hand, etc this includes trip out to LeMans, Goodwood, Silverstone Classic, etc i.e. if I organise as an RO representing the club but I think individuals can get away with it as it is not tagged as an official club rally...

OPC/specialists open days? Did you miss this in the Porsche Post? All events are always well advertised in the Porsche Post (this goes out to every single member whereas forum, emails, website, etc doesn't). We had one this Saturday at Porsche East London. We always have a Spring Open day at East London and an Autumn open day at West London. Those are the only OPCs in the London area (Mayfair and Canary Wharf are just sales offices) so any other open days (Hatfield, Cambridge, Guildford, Reading, etc) are organised by other ROs.

I'm currently in discussion with West London on organising a centre subsidise Silverstone Porsche driving experience and an number of other close ties with the Porsche Retail group, will post the details once we have finalised this... Porsche Byfleet are very keen on us visiting but unfortunately this is not in London region but we link up with them at Brooklands event anyway (Brooklands static display and Wings & Wheels) ...

Porsche Post has a restriction on events I can repeat every month, so if you see the Jan 2010 edition that it covers all the meets and events in 2010 but monthly it would cover events within the 4-5weeks of PP post date.

Next up: Ace cafe meet on last Monday of the month (29 march); Ace, Richmond, Brands Hatch, FatBoy meets happens every month. I try and get a major event every other month in addition to that so May 2 Brooklands Museum Porsche display and photo session at the historic banks is next; followed by May bank holiday Ace Cafe meet at a special Spring meet (hoping to good weather and great turn out for this)...

Note: best to drop me an email if you need details as nowadays I only get a chance to look at the forum via my blackberry and if you have used a smart phone then you will understand it ticks the box for being able to read and being in touch with everything but posting back is still not that practical...
