Help 2 Alarm going off on battery disconnection

Following on from Help 1 when I disconnected the negative battery terminal with a view to charging it the alarm went off and I couldn't work out how to turn it off! I reconnected the batt, tried locking and unlocking the doors with key and with remote but still the alarm went! It turned itself off after about 2 minutes but I'm not sure I want to chance it again until I know what I'm doing wrong.

Just sorted this one, it appears you have to have key in the ignition and at position 1. (How do they come up with this stuff?)

Hi, much easier to buy a charger, Porsche's own or similar. Just plug it in and it will charge up even a flat battery.

As you have found, the key needs to be in the ignition. Turn the ignition on, then you can turn it off, but leave the key in place. This leaves the ancillary feed on (terminal 86s). The alarm siren has a backup battery inside it, and this powers the siren when the car battery is disconnected without terminal 86 being energised. Why do they do that? It is to set the siren off if someone tries to steal your battery. Of course, that could only happen if the car was unlocked.

If the alarm does go off, you have to switch on the ignition (with the car battery connected) in order to silence it.
