help - 944 RoW headlights

I have a 1991 944 S2 RoW car - came from Japan with Left Hand Traffic ecode H4s (single bulb) and M605 - vertically adjustable headlights with the rotary switch on the console. Here in Canada this is a rare option - sealed beams were standard in NA so I'm having no luck obtaining information on this setup. I've changed the headlights to Right Hand Traffic ecodes but I need some help with adjusting.

Regarding the retaining frame which holds the adjusting screws and motor. The top right is a threaded shaft with philips head for left/right adjustment. Bottom left is threaded shaft with philips head for up/down adjustment and Top left is knurled shaft with a plain head which seems to be an anchor point. Can this knurled shaft be turned to alter the baseline setting or is it "fixed" in the retaining frame? I'm asking because the bottom left up/down adjustment on the motor seems to be screwed in all the way (which leaves no more room for making basic adjustments).

Sorry if this is simple stuff for you but getting these parts in Canada is a big deal and pretty expensive so I'm worried about breaking things while experimenting. Thank you.

Hello. Im too tired after along day to really get to grips with this, but you will find that VW Gold (Rabbit) Mk1 H4 headlamps will fit into the existing frames and it may be that this simple replacement will be easier. The adjuster ring may differ, I cant remember, but the parts off a 924 will be virtually worthless to anyone dismantling one.

Thanks 944man but I've already got the correct headlights (from the dealer - $407 Canadian). I did check the 924 parts catalogue though and interestingly enough - the '88 924s uses the same retaining frame (same adjusters and vertical beam adjustment motor) but has a different headlight and different mounting tabs to connect to the adjusters.

So - I'm back to trying to verify how the retaining frame/adjusters/vertical beam adjustment motor are supposed to work before I start experimenting, break something and have to buy new retaining frames.

The local dealer here is quite straightforward saying they don't really have any experience with these headlights because North American cars were delivered with sealed beams and no vertical beam adjustment (not required in North America).

When I mentioned '924' I was referring to the 2,000cc cars, but I was too tired to recall that these had sealed beams too, sorry (and I didnt know that North American 924Ss had adjustable late-944 type adjustable lamps).

Would an exploded diagram help?

Thanks 944man. I've got a copy of the Porsche parts manual and the wsm for the car so I can get part numbers and such. The wsm kind of glosses over this stuff but now that I see the 924S used this system as well, I'll look for that manual as it may contain more information (earlier usage of the system so Porsche may have provided more explanation for the technicians).

Also - I stumbled across a post from BlackMagic (apparently I wasn't using the forum search engine correctly the first time) that describes the process very well.

Sorry for posting a call for help when there was a thread dealing with this subject already. I appreciate your information and willingness to jump in. Thanks again.

The thread I'm referring to is titled "Headlamp leveling motor operation" in the 944 forum if you want to have a look.
