Broken my pride and joy-jumpstarting bmw and started Porsche in gear-blew starter motor and some thing else(starter fixed but no spark now) -any ideas-burning smell inside car-not ignition-wiring diagram just arrived from Bosche but need microscope to read it.

Hi if its a 964 look at the alarm box under passager seat , remove and carefully slide out the electrical plate, if its burnt, thats the problem

Hi Barry,
No alarm box under seat-any other ideas ?
A friend said disconnect the immobiliser-worth a try ?

Hello,
The unit is under the DRIVER's seat not the passengers.
It is marked "Alarm-ZV-Steuergerat" and the part number is 928.618.260.00
What other symptons have you got - interior lights not working, etc.
I would imagine you will get one from a breaker for about £70.
Two connector blocks and two phillips screws and hey presto it is out. Plug the other one in and try to start the car.
Cheers,

Hi Fred-no box under either seat-all electrics working previously-got car going last week but stopped during test drive-now with specialist-some thing wrong with electric box in engine compartment.
Thanks for your help.

Sound like a power surge that as blown the spark Box , this is easy done when you try to start a car off a flat battery , with another battery or battery pack or charger

-but whats a DME ?

Digital motor electronics. DME is short for the chip or the "computer brain" that runs the DME.

No such nonsense on a good carrera 3.0 [;)]

Spark boxes however is something I am familiar with- Mittelmotor in germany www.mittelmotor.de do brand new ones for 295 euros. The usual suspects sell them as well here in the UK but there is a bit of a mark up.

Regards and good luck,

Bert

Hello Keith,
Must be totally different to a 964, At least you got chance to remove the seats and get rid of all the old sweet wrappers, car park tickets etc.
Sorry the info didn't help.
Cheers,
