Help! Clutch Fluid Leaking

Hi Guys!

I got in my 944 (1983, n/a, 2.5L) thismorning, and as i pressed the clutch pedal, it slammed to the floor and didnt return, I opened the bonnet & saw that the fluid resevoir was completely empty, accompanied by a puddle on the floor.

This leads me to believe that the slave cylinder may be the culprit, as i can't see any leakage from the top of the engine bay/bulkhead / master cyl / inside the driver's footwell and all the connecting rods seem good.

I topped the resevoir up with dot4 and was hoping to see it leak, but as expected, that would be too easy and the pedal is not any better. I'm guessing that there's an air-lock between the master and slave cyl's.

My questions therefore are:
  • How easy is the clyinder to replace, and how long will it take?
  • what other components need to be removed 1st?
  • where is the best place to buy a new one? (cheapest)
  • any other ideas what it may be???
Cheers Guys! looking forward to reading the replies!
Regards,
James.

Get your local hydraulic hose company (or your self if you've got a pipe flarer) to make up an extended bleed nipple from the slave cylinder so its accessible from the top (or a flexible one that can be bent) and therefore accessed easier from below?

Good idea or am I 30,000 feet up and diving in flames [&:]

Just had the same thing happen to me we were all ready to go out it was raining of course. If you are anything like me ,if it breaks it needs fixing yesterday, I still have all the old bits and new bits waiting for it to stop raining.Aint it funny how things with wheels are so hard to move when pushed I can't get mine into my garage without the clutch. The starter motor as you may have found out by now is spitefully in the way so has to come off first. As previously mentioned is in a place where it is ALMOST impossible to use with the cylinder fitted. Also it will have deposited all the fluid on the drive over a few hours .It is worth checking your master whilst you are at it these things rarely go independently. It is a lot easier than the slave and should be about the same price £45. However its all well within D.I.Y. range,a couple of 13 mm spanners,a 6mm for the bleed nipple and a bit of rubber tube ,DOT 3 or 4 fluid and a lot of luck. Have fun.
