Help, Coolant leak

New member
Put new antifreeze in today....Halfords 5 year.

leak for behind timing cover (1 drip every 3 seconds) that I did not have before!

Is the water pump driven from the cam belt?

If so i guess its from the pump seal......Can these be replaced?

Could the more expensive antifreeze be thinner?

Is it safe the use leak stop (BARS etc.) as its such a small leak and looks a big job.

Did you just bleed the head using the top screw?
It is possible for quite large amounts to accumulate and then run down behind the timing cover.
Water pump is driven off the cambelt and don't know of any spares available. I am led to believe that usually if they start leaking they sieze up later which destroys the belts with the usual messy consequences so replacement is best option.

Had the same problem about 3 weeks ago. Only loss of coolant after engine had been running then switched off.
Mechanic was due to change all the belts anyway.
Mechanic removed water pump and this tested ok.
Reinstalled pump with new gasket.
All working fine.
