HELP Early 944 Alternator Bolt - WHERE TO GET ONE?!

Hello there,

Early 944 owner here.

I have a 1984 944 - unfortunatley my alternator bolt snapped whilst driving, (the long one at the top) - unfortunatley I am struggling to source a replacement.

I ordered the only one I could find from Design911 here:
https://www.design911shop.com/Porsche-968-928-944-Alternator-Hexagon-Head-Bolt-90007419702/prod132485/?showtax=true&gclid=Cj0KCQiAqbyNBhC2ARIsALDwAsBCrh5IPHF9V3msSkqEQMg6WbmiF-nAXkNCKroGOCE1-GkV1aEy7VwaAvAoEALw_wcB

However it came after a few weeks, and was slightly too big (width), presumably because they gave the S2 a stronger updated one.

Would anyone know where to source one of these, currently using some threaded bar as a bodge to get me going which isn't ideal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi James,
As part way through a 944 resto I feel your pain! Can’t guarantee but I’ve had excellent service from Ross Turner in the Parts Team at Porsche Hatfield.

ross.turner@porschehatfield.co.uk

If Porsche don’t supply them direct (God bless ‘em….) maybe you could try Paul at Porsche Spares U.K., who I believe used to be Woolies Workshop.

office@porschesparesuk.com

They are well known in the field of 924 and 944 breakers / builders so may be able to assist. Good luck. Alan

Hi Alan,

This is brill, thank you I will give them both a try. I think my alternative is to go to an enginnering shop and see if they can make something up with the correct sizes/thread.

Thanks again, much appreciated.

Cheers Andrew,

Been looking for a parts list/diagram such as the nemigaparts one you posted.

The previous bolt I ordered was M10 so this M8 looks spot on. Cheers I thought it was a unique Porsche part.

Perfect thanks!

Cheers J

Not many unique parts, the trick is finding where else they were used

parts were pinched from
VW/Audi
Mercedes
Volvo
snd a few other places

I was surprised (at first, not really the more I thought about it) that even the inertia reel seatbelts on my 996 we’re made by Volvo!
