HELP - EMERGENCY!!!

Hi there

Just giving my new Cayenne Turbo (new to me, 2003 model) a full clean today and I removed the sellotape that the previous owner had wrapped around the remote key.

The back of the key fell off, and the battery came out in my pocket. Could have have been out 30 minutes tops.

Anyways, I put the battery back in but it will not communicate with the car now! No central locking.

Open the door, alarm goes off, try to start the car it's dead (immobiliser).

Looked in my manual and it says to change the remote battery just take the rear of the cover off and replace with a new battery.

Called two auto locksmiths in a panic, and I've been told it has to go to Porsche and that they can't do it.

Nearest dealer 1.5 hours away (Cardiff).

Spoke to Porsche, they said that the battery cannot be replaced and you have to buy a new key (£200) each time the battery runs out.

What the hell???

Anyone know how I can get my car working again, and is it really true that you are not able to change the batteries yourself in the remote control????

Perhaps a call to the previous owner might help? They may have had a problem with the battery falling out - hence the Sellotape. Are their details on the V5 or can you contact them via the dealer you bought the car from?

Sounds like the key has just got out of sync with the car - there should be a procedure for re-sync in the manual.

Or someone with a more modern car than mine will be along soon to tell you how.

It's something like, open door with key, insert key in ignition (but don't turn), press a particular button witin X seconds.

Whoever your phoned at your OPC, make a mental note not to believe them again, and call a different OPC....
 
I just scanned the cayenne manuals over on RenTech and none of them mention the resync method

It used to be "stick the key in the door and unlock the door manually, leave the door closed (otherwise alarm goes off) and press the alarm activate/deactivate button"

Yes, makes sense that you should be able to resynch it.

However, can't find anything in the manual. But it does say in the manual that you can change the battery in the remote, but the guy at Porsche Cardiff said the remotes are sealed.

Kind of makes sense because the back of the remote was sellotaped back on (I imagine maybe he broke it opening it the first time).

What a nightmare!

The car is now outside with a locked (manually) drivers door, 3 other unlocked doors! Alarm fires when you oepn the doors, but still bloody stupid!

I'm starting to hate Porsche, and I've only had it 3 days [:(]

Never has such a stupid problem with Merc's!

I change the battery on my remote with no problems, I did have to open the car with the key and i started it straight away seemed to have done the trick remote work as it should now.
 
I've had batteries changed in my remote - by an OPC, not a problem - requiring a new remote -seems a bit steep

Do you have a spare remote - My 2005 Cayenne came with two remotes.

Do you have the conventional system or the keyless entry & drive system? But again, you'd expect to be able to renew batteries without spending 200 quid on a new electronic key.

 
Emergency opening procedure:
Unlock drivers door
Open door within 20 seconds
Insert key into ignition within 10 seconds to prevent alarm triggering
Car should be able to be started

I believe that there is a chip in the key which the immobiliser detects which should not be effected by the battery removal (at least not for a short period). However I have heard of a case where a key lost it's code and had to be reprogrammed by OPC, which they charged an extorsionate amount for.

Silly question but where is your second key? KNs are supplied with two full keys and a 'chauffeur' key.

Glad to report that it was a flat battery (in the car not the remote).

Hard to believe it went COMPLETELY flat in the couple of hours I was cleaning the inside with the doors open. It's only the internal light and boot light.

The battery was TOTALLY flat. Have charged it up and hopefully it will be fine now. Worst case scenario the battery is screwed and so I have to get a new battery.

The battery in there was a Bosch one rather than Porsche. Looks virtually brand new though (but guess it does not get dirty under the seat).

What a pain to get that battery out! Luckilly I have a battery booster which i connected to feed power to the electric seat to move it backwards, and then forward again at stage two.

Anyways. HOPEFULLY sorted!!

That's good news and bad news then. I think you may well need a new battery and keep it topped up with a trickle charger if vehicle is only used for short journeys or infrequently.
