HELP: Gearbox?

Dre

New member
driving in this morning, tried putting into second and the gearstick pops out. I cannot get the car into any gear forward or reverse!!! It's stuck in first which is how I managed to get it home...very slowly. So what could it be? Gearbox?

Someone please help

synchro mesh has gone??

common fault on a 996!

hate to be bringer of bad news but porsche do not provide any rebuild parts so it is a whole new box.

had mine done under opc warranty. it is a breath taking price!

Look at the Wright-Tune site, they appear to be offering gearbox rebuilds. Didn't Berny (Scouser) find a workshop in Belgium as well?

Pete's right, Tony Wright does 996 and 986 gearbox rebuilds: http://www.wrightune.co.uk

Sounds like a selector problem to me, rather than synchromesh. If it was synchro you would still be able to select other gears, and would get a crunching when selecting second (but it should stay in gear).

Thanks Richard. I immediately thought it was going to be expensive !

Anyhow I had a chat with Northway Porsche and they suggested that it could be a selector cable thats come of from the gearbox. I'm going to have to get dirty later tonight to see if I can clip it on...they said if this is the problem it should be relatively straightforward to do.

If anyone has a techincal manual that shows how to do this I would appreciate either a brief description of what to do, or even better (cheeky I know) a scanned copy or pdf of the instructions would be amazingly helpful.

thanks for the comments and suggestions so far.

I could extract the pages from the manual if you like. Send me an email and I'll attach them to a reply.
