......Or if you're lucky, the oil return bellows. They are renowned for splitting, tip oil all over the nearside gearbox end of the engine and make the car run like a bag of nails! The part is only about a fiver but it is the most awkward b****** to fit. It can (just) be done without dropping the engine though.

Other air leaks I have encountered are a split oil filler pipe (just next to the flexible part of the tube and another complete b****** to remove and replace) spark plug tube seals and any one of the myriad vacuum pipes around the engine.

Could be a difficult one to diagnose.

Engine packed in friday complete solid no water afetr temp light went on and off straase say needs new engine.I went into main dealer they had it 2 hours and said air leak never checked water ???Wanted 10 hours labour to find fault then week later completely packed in.Have I got any recourse

Probably only if you've got a Porsche warranty or the wrong diagnosis with an assurance that it was OK to drive in writing from JCT600.

Looks like it probably was a cracked liner after all. I suggest you talk to Autofarm if the engine hasn't completely destroyed itself. Their solution costs from £8400, but a new engine is £13K!

Bad luck [:(]
