Help, Help, HELP!! overfuelling!!

I have a 1972 2.4 911T in great condition, it has just spent 12 weeks in a local garage being worked on but they still cant sort the over fuelling problem.. It starts and runs fine, but as soon as it hits running temp it cuts out!

No garage seems to want to touch it!!!!!

PLEASE HELP!!!

What can i do to rectify this problem, short of selling the car!

If your car is running carbs have a read here: zenith carb info

It may help with set up and general running.

What are the exact symptoms? Hope we may be able to offer some advice[;)]

Are you using an independent Porsche specialist . . . they wouldn't turn it away and would know what they're looking at. Where are you based??

Why do you say that it's an over fuelling issue??

Hi Phil, thanks for your reply,

The garage it has been in is an 'Independent German car specialist' They have done some work on the car but say they cant sort the engine problem, "We don't have the data to tune it properly as it is such an old car" they told me!

The engine runs fine cold but on warming up it will cough, splutter and cut out. It has been on the CO machine and the emissions are running sky high, therefore over fuelling - I gather that this will be a fuel injection fault.

It has one of the first Bosch mechanical fuel injection systems, which seems to frighten a lot of garages off.

I have it booked in for next week with a Porsche specialist who seems confident that the problem can be rectified as they are a also Bosch specialist. I am in Sheffield by the way!

Ahhh. fuel injection.... one of the great mysteries of life (after carbs that is..)

A Bosch specialist should be able to help. They were still using mechanical injection on much the same principles in the late '80s.

The 911 Haynes manual is pretty comprehensive with injection set up and tuning advice. Maybe take the Haynes to your garage and ask them to read it!!![:D]

I have lived in Sheffield for 20 years with an early car with Bosch mechanical fuel injection. The most knowledgeable people in the area areStrasse at Leeds as David Sunderland worked on these cars when they were new.
Another possible source is Mellors Elliott Portland Garage at Bakewell, they were very good on this stuff.
Have you checked that hot air from the heat exchanger/exhaust is feeding back to the thermostat on the rear of the injector pump?

Why not have a phone chat with Russell Lewis? His phone no is in the technical info at the back of PP. He knows everything there is to know about 'old' 911's and has nursed my 1973 2.4 911E through every challenge it has thrown at him over more than 20 years! I now do track days.
