This is from a 1988 924S, p/n 944 343 071 00, same part as on early 944 too, maybe later ones as well.
Anyway, I have it all apart on the bench. There is a metal ring insert p/n 823 412 365, which sits inside a bearing, (I can see the ring of roller balls in there), which is mounted in the rubber mount.
My question is how do I tell if this part is worn? There is some movement in both parts - but this could be normal. I can't find any advice in haynes, the 944 .pdf manual, clarks garage, or in archives. Just replacing everything is easy if you have deep pockets but I want to understand.
Can anyone help please?
Steve
