hi i have a 1984 944 and the is a click click sound coming from wot sound like the rear drives side, but when i put my foot on the brake even light it stops.
i have jacked the car up and turned the wheel no sound.
then took the disc off to look at the shoes they seen ok.
any ideas??????

You probably not get a clicking sound be just turning the wheel by hand.
If one side is worn then my advice is to do both sides and get it over with.

Cheers,

i was thinking wheel bearing as the noise goes away when you brake ( the disc taking the play out of the bearing )

When you brake then then cv joint is running 'free'.
Wheel bearings don't tend to click, more of a grinding / grating noise.

Take it down to your friendly local garage and see what they diagnose as being the problem.

Cheers,

Ryan, some of the above are as likely correct as my suggestion, but my 944t just occasionally (perhaps for 3 miles in 5000) can develop a rumble from one back corner at about 60mph+
If I slow down it goes away for months again.

My theory is at a certain point as the Brake Pads wear, the Pad can vibrate.

(before I get asked, CV's are perfect, I replaced the 4 wheel bearings, no stones anywhere, disc's good, all suspension bushes OK, tyres good, wheel nuts tight)
