HELP...I need sombody....

not just anybody....

No seriously, this is my first post. Pleased to meet you all. What I need help with is oil. I have been doing a bit of research, and was gonna go for Red Line, but recentley a freind of mine who is a motorsport engineer told me to get some Royal Purple....

Firstly, anyone ever heard of it?

I must admit I have spoken to quite a few people, all of whom have said good things, but I dont know of any track record in Porche' s. I intensley dislike all the big name brands, i.e mobil 1, castrol etc, so I try to go for the slightly less well known stuff like 76 and now maybe Royal Purple.

Helpp!!!!!!

Welcome back tlannon!

If you search on that user name you will find the Royal Purple rep for the site (at least it seems that way! [;)] )

You say you dislike all the big name brands? On what basis?

Mobil 1 is recommended by Porsche for the newer models (such as your Boxster). I would stick with the big names who have the big budget for development if I was you. Porsche and Mobile have worked together for years, why go for some no-name company with presumably no significant budget?

Mixing oils is not advisable either, so if you are on a trip and you need oil, what are you going to do? You would need to carry a top-up bottle of RP with you, or you could buy Mobil 1 from a Mobil, or BP garage, or from accesory shops and even supermarkets.

You decide..

I will decide......I have been away so sorry for the delay in replying.

Simply because a company doesnt spend millions on advertising doesnt make their product of poor quality.....in fact, it usually means its better. For certain large oil companies (no names mentioned-you do the math)to sponsor every motor sport event under the sun, it costs hundreds of million pounds. They have to get this cash back somewhere......beacuse their is no way they will let it eat into their profit margin....and they can afford to do it because the oil is very cheap to produce. I have worked in the oil industry for years, and I happen to KNOW that the only reason manufacturers recommend certain oils is because the directors have been taking massive financial backhanders, not because it is best for their engine. And in most cases the manufacturers get the oil free. Simply to use Exxon/mobil as an example, they dont even build from a twin ester base stock ,which is by far the most advanced formulation currentley available. I know this to be true because I have seen the film strength and heat handling tests done before my very eyes....

And I dont think carrying a litre of oil around in the boot is too much problem in order to get good protection....now, im not blatantley recommending Royal Purple here, thats just what I use and have had personal experience of, but their are other companies like 76, amsoil and rock that im sure could offer products with higher film strength than Mobil or Castrol.

This has the making of a good thread re-opening old wounds.....

I must admit to wanting the best for my engine and the ' accepted' answer is Mobil 1 - at least for mine it is.

If you went to buy a porsche and the owner said ' I use Mobil 1' nuff said... If he answered ' Purple Ronnie' s Special Brew' you would think ' what the ..... is that???? even though I don' t for a moment doubt the accuracy of the statements made by mxmad...[8|]

In your first post you asked for help with oil.

It sounds like you have made your mind up!

Here is a link to the other thread about Royal Purple.
Any comparison to writing style is obviously a coincidence...

mxmad - Are you related in anyway to tlannon or oilyrag or Robin Purple or the like perchance???

Should we have a register of forum members interest like MP' s????

let me put this to bed once and for all. I am no longer working, I took early retirement, and I have no affilaition with any oil company. I am merely trying to help people see the errors of their ways when it comes to lubrication, because that is where my field knowledge lies. I wont mention who I used to work for, but it was a leading recognised brand. The only reason I continue to champion Royal Purple is that it is the only oil i have EVER found that makes good on all the claims it makes. I have seen ansd used almost every oil currentley available to the average joe, and many more that arnt on commercial sale. I appreciate that my threads may sound like advertising, perhaps I have been a bit naive in my approach, and for this I apologise. Oil is my specialist subject, and as I have only had my boxster for a very short time, the only thing I feel currentley qualified to post about. As I said, rock, 76, and others all manuafacture oils that I believe are superior to mobil and castrol.

Now i' m completely confused! (doesn' t take much :ROFLMAO:). You say that you continue to champion Royal Purple, yet only just a week ago this lubricant was a bit of a new adventure?

tlannon:
" The main reason I only talk about oil is because its what I know. I used to work in the oil industry...Im retired now anyway."

Wow! Two retired oil industry people who champion brands they did NOT work for! Pretty unusual, most people have a natural affinity with the company they work for and champion it' s products even after they leave. The Oil industry must be a really horrible place to work for two people to be so anti the companies they worked for (and learnt so much whilst working there apparently).

Or am I just being suspicious

...any of you guys

You don' t sound retired! - Congratulations on keeping such a youthful style of prose! (Both of you).

I appreciate that my threads may sound like advertising

Um, I thought this was the only one? Or have you re-registered after all?

mad max/ tlemon - I' ve got your coat [:D][:D][:D]

No doubt oil come across you again in another thread. Perhaps you should entitle it ' Deja vu'

You asked for help with oil, yet you seem to be a self professed expert. Who were you hoping to find on a Boxster forum with more knowlege, John Harvey Jones?
