Hi All
Could please do with some advice. I have a 993 turbo registered Jan 98 that had the dealer-fitted engine power upgrade on delivery (probably at Little Aston, Birmingham - now no records as moved/closed). According to Porsche UK it could have had 2 options then; to 430 (R stamped next to engine number) or to 450 (S stamped next to engine number). Unfortunately no stamp was done and all records have now gone. Is there any way of assessing the components or even the ECU fitted that"ll say which upgrade it had?

many thanks, Adam

Turbos and ECU will tell you if its 430 or 450, what part numbers are on them?

Dealer wont stamp the engine block.

If the 450 kit was fitted the car *may* have the dual outlet exhaust tips as opposed to the ovals. But as T911Uk says get the part numbers off the turbos and/or ECU - that's the clearest way to tell.

Just out of interest I came across this post on piston heads from 2009

"993 turbo was 408hp standard with optional 430 kit (ECU & Oil cooler) or 450 kit (ECU, Oil cooler, K24 Turbos and quad tail pipes).
996 Turbo was 420 hp standard, 450hp with X50 (K24 turbos)"

can anyone confirm if this is true? Mine has oval tail pipes but I've also read that sometimes that was left and not converted to quads... Thanks

That is correct, big ovals in the 430 kit, turbo S quads in the 450 kit. The rear boxes needed to be cut to fit the quads so not everyone went with that option, as youve read!
