HELP - LOCKING WHEEL NUT PROBLEM!!!

Getting my car ready for Blenheim, I thought I would take the wheels off and give them a good clean; two down and two to go when the locking wheel nut adaptor split in half!! Part number is 996 361 057 02, I can find them on the 'net but my question is - if I buy a new set will the adaptor fit the existing nuts??? I would imagine not as this seems to defeat the object, but I could be wrong. I have the original packaging which has a code number on it - to order replacements??
Any help gratefully received as I want to get the other 2 wheels done before next Saturday!!

Thankyou

I might be corrected but I think there are only about 6 different 'combinations' of Porsche adaptor sockets. Call your OPC with the part number and any serial numbers on the original packaging and they'll probably be able to order a replacement adaptor socket.

My OPC have a complete set of all the possible keys in a nice wooden box (there are a lot more than 6) - so maybe easiest to go along to yours and get them to remove the ones on the car with their key, after you have ordered a new set... (from experience [8|]) the OPCs keep them in stock!

Any idea what caused it to split? But worrying really.

Blimey. Getting my car ready for Blenheim I put 320 miles on it on Friday in mainly monsoon conditions. At times a rudder would have been more use than the steering wheel! Suppose I'd better wash it now!

See you there and good luck with finding a replacement locking nut.

i had one split on my boxster, i went to my opc who got there box out (and they were only around six different combos) and ordered one. When it came it would not fit, they checked they had the right one (to which they did) so they reordered. They replacement did not fit, so they gave me the one out of there box. I did manage to get the old one re-welded. So i ended up with two

For some reason I always believed there were only 6 or so of each type - probably read it on a forum. The one's on my 964 have a 993 part number. Perhaps the OPC box was a collection of 993, 996 and 997 combinations hence the greater number of sockets.

Thanks for all the replies. My local Indy managed the job, and I have had the locking nuts replaced with ordinary ones as this isn't the first time that this has happened (with other cars)!!
Just to round off the story, I got the car home intending to remove and clean the other two wheels but I can't get some of the nuts off!!
The silver 996 at Blenheim with two clean and two dirty wheels is mine.

I had mine split on me 2 weeks ago, welded it and it split again, have now bought new set and chucked away the last lot. I think my problem was using the tool kit wrench and stamping on it to loosen the nuts, this sharp force just tore it apart. Now use an extendable wrench and torque wrench.
