Hi fellers,

Friend of mine has seen a 54plate 996 Turbo Cab he is interested in and I thought I would ask you guys what you thought and what should he ask / look for? any advice / help would be appricated/

It is for sale at www.imperials.co.uk

58,000 miles with a host of extra's / goodies - £32,000

Many thanks

I've got virtually the same car. I've only had two expensive problems with it 1) the clutch dies roughly every 28k requiring a £2000 replacement. 2) stones go through the front vents and damage the three radiators in the front bumper requiring a £300 replacement per radiator.

Check the clutch bite and feel and the service history to see when it was last changed. Check for any steam coming from the front bumper - easier to do on a cold day, but it's a quick sign that one or more of the radiators has gone.

Other than that I've had no major problems. Everything else has been quickly sorted at low cost.

Only one other comment, and this is personal preference only, but I feel the cabriolet benefits from heated seats (I notice this car doesn't have them). You get a lot more use out of the cabriolet in the winter that way and it saves the pain of having to fit the hardtop!

Cheers,

Neil.

Shouldn't have too many clutch problems on a Tiptronic. [;)]

Check out the usual 996 foibles on our buyer's checklist: https://www.porscheclubgb.com/legacy/clientftp/Register/996/tec_buyers_checklist.pdf

Also listen out for rattling turbo wastegates, and check the boost at WOT. It should hit 0.6-0.7 bar. Any less could be a problem, any more would be a sign it has been re-mapped.
