Help needed - engine warning light problem

I have a really frustrating problem with my Boxster that seems to be beyond both the official porsche dealership I have taken it to, and one unofficial porsche repairs centre. I wonder if anyone on here has had a similar problem and can give me any pointers?
The problem is that the engine warning light is on constantly (there are no signs of any real problems with the car otherwise) ; the dealership keep thinking they have found the fault (they replaced some air vent filters or something - they have had the car 4 times now!) and reset the light, but within 200 miles the warning light always comes back on. They now seem to have washed their hands of me, and have given up!

Any comments appreciated.

Model, Year - would help.

The OPC would have been able to read an error code when resetting the light - do you know what the code is?

it's a year 2002, 2.7
I will see if the OPC will tell me what the error code was! they have not been overly helpful thus far regrettably.
thanks
