My 996C4s threw a serpentine belt last weekend and what I thought was a simple broken belt was actually a nightmare!!

When I looked the lower idler fro the belt was in the bottom with the complete belt, it had snapped the mounting bolt clean off and the reminder is in the engine. It also appeared to have taken some threads with it and a small chunk of casing around the seat the idler mounts too.

Having looked again what I thought was some of the aluminium thread on the end of the bolt still in the idker is actually a hardened steel insert, I slo noticed the hole in the idler spacer looked offset on one side and when measured there is 1.3mm diference. I think this is the cause of the failiure.

Has anyone had previous experience with this problem, is the insert original fitment? should the spacer have an off set hole? i don't beleive so but I may be wrong

Any feedback would be appreciated, thank you

I have attached one picture but that all I can attach for some reason?

I don't have any helpful experience, but good luck getting it sorted. The picture I presume is the bit of idler on the end of a magnetic wand? I'm struggling to relate that to what you get in the idler kit.

Are the pulley and bearings in one piece/undamaged?
