Drove down to the shops today and everything was fine parked the car , came out and the car wouldnt start , when i turn the ignition on there is no il pressure i am sure that it should go upto to 3 , any advice would be most welcome .

hi there

Can you give us a little more info plz, did the car turn over at all, if not then you wouldn't expect to get any pressure it would just light up red with a slight movement on the gauge.

any other symptons?

Pete

The oilpump is driven by the turning of the engine so there shouldn't be any pressure till it starts. The needle may flick up a bit as it turns over but that's it.

Problem could be the DME relay which is prone to failure. Do a search there's loads about it as well as how to make a temporary jumper to bypass/replace the relay so you can get it going.

the engine turned over with no problem as usual but just wouldnt fire up . There was no unusual noises and i had been driving her earlier on during the day with no problems at all .

ok.. as awattam says check the DME relay, I suspect it's an electrical problem rather than anything serious

Fingers crossed...[:)][:)]

Thanks i hope it is nothing major it would ruin my summer , I am just waitingt for the rac to bring her home i will let you know the outcome , many thanks again

Sounds like a DME relay would be the easy place to start looking.

At less than £20 why not carry a spare in their glovebox as we keep suggesting here and in the Porsche Post? They are prone to sudden failure, even relatively new ones, and even if you never need it you might be able to help a stranded owner one day! [:)]

i just went down to meet the rac man in the recovery truck and thought i'll try it one more time and she started up , is that a sign that the dme relay is failing or could there be another problem ?

Possibly if the relay was hot I guess although unlikely as you had left the car standing for a while first. Check for any loose wiring which may have been moved by the RAC man while he was trying to find the fault. Check the Crank sensors multiplugs at the back of the engine and also the earth strap. Rotor arm and disi may be worth a look too , coil lead etc etc.

the rac man never even touched the car , i think i'll send it in for a service and diagnostic and see what happens

Possibly flooded? I've done this to both cars this year (despite never having managed it in all the previous years), they don't like short journeys and moving them around when they're still warming up can be enough to make a mess of the plugs. The 944S cleared itself after a wait, loads of throttle and a full battery, the white car needed a plug change [:)] but then it was runing quite rich at the time (pre piggyback fitment).

strange car , now the car starts fine but when i try to pull away everything cuts out and the engine stops for a couple of seconds then carries on as normal and when i put full beam on the stereo stops . Is this part of the legendary electrical problems ?
