Help - Oil explosion!

Help!
I blew my 944 S2 up last night and had to be towed home! Basically had been to the driving range and we were off to the local pub for a pint and a curry. Next thing i know there is oil sprayed all over my windscreen. I pull in and there is a huge puddle of oil running out from under the car. It was pitch black and i managed to get a tow back to the garage who normally do the work on her and i have left it with them, nervously awaiting the veridict. The oil appeared to have pumped out under pressure and squirted out from under the bonnet around the drivers side front headlight. There was no pre warning, no noises, grinding shaking etc literally just a gush of oil squirting out under pressure. The oil pressure guage instantly dropped to zero. Does anyone have any idea what could have caused this? Please advise.

Same place but different shape I think.[FONT=verdana, geneva"] [FONT=verdana, geneva"]In my experience of holing my sump these engines are quite resiliant to running critically low on oil for a short time, so hopefully you'll get away with it.[FONT=verdana, geneva"]

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the advice. After panicking for a week or so, it turned out that the oil filter was to blame! I'd had a full oil service a month or so earlier and according to my local mechanic, they'd not smeared oil on the rubber oil filter seal before tightening it up. As they had tightened it up the seal had gripped and lifted. So whilst i was tanking along oblivious, the thing ruptured and shot oil everywhere! Anyway, no damage done other than heart palpatations for a few weeks and a bill for £50.

Thanks again for the advice.

Dan
