Help - Oil Leak

Guest

New member
All, I hope you can help me or give some advise.

I've just noticed that my 2001 2.7 Box is dripping some oil. It's not absolutely pouring
out but it's leaving a patch on the garage floor every morning.

I know they're has been previous posts regarding oil leaks and I'm about to read everyone
to see what's been done.

From what I can remember this is quite a common thing on certain regs.

Please help..

Me again.

I've just been reading through some of the posts and am even more confused
as what to do.

Some posts say, get it repaired and some say, leave it and enjoy the car. Also
there's many posts where people have had the RMS peplaced only for it to leak again!!

I do not have any warranty on the car so this is therefore more of a concern for me.

Also I have occasional clutch judder could this be related??

Regards

Andrew,

it may be leaking from another source (but most likely, will be RMS) but you need someone who knows to pinpoint the source - by looking underneath.

If it has been leaking for a while then it could have contaminated the clutch, but this does not seem common

Most of the cost of replacement is labour, an independant will be half price of an OPC but you wont get the warranty

And getting the clutch done at same time would be better value

Andrew,

Further to Nic's advice, the RMS on my 2002 Boxster was replaced just the other week and I got a new clutch kit installed at the same time. Although my car has only covered 25,000 miles, it made sense to get a new clutch installed labour free while the RMS was being done. A good OPC or indy should recommend a new clutch during RMS replacement if the wear is greater than 50%.

Check out Tool Pants postings both on here & the RennTech Forum:

I have found Tool Pants postings on the dreaded RMS issue very informative and contain superb photos.

From personal experience, the cost of RMS replacement on a manual 2.7 Boxster can vary between OPC's from £550 to £1200, so it certainly pays to get more than one estimate.

If your RMS is leaking, since your car is less than 5 years old and if you have a full OPC service history, I would strongly recommend getting the OPC to submit a goodwill claim to Porsche Cars GB.

Best of luck.

Andy

Many thanks for your reply and attaching the url.

The leak now seems to be getting worse after looking under the car this morning. I think
what I'll do is approach my local Hatfield OPC and speak with the Service Manager and
see what he says.
I'm absolutely gutted - I've just spent a fortune on the car last month with a major service, 4 new tyres,
tracking, having a small dent removed and so on, only for this to happen.
I love the car to bits and am willing the good weather so I can get the roof down and enjoy the experience of owning a superb car - but it's proving to be very costly.

Best Regards,

Dave.
