Help - Overheating Driver

My 1992 911 964 has developed a fault in that only hot air blows out of the driver's side vents, even when the a/c is on. My service guy has traced this to the stepper motor which controls a flap valve. He says that these motor are no longer available and has disconnected it so that the a/c produces cooled air, otherwise the car is undrivable without the windows open.

This isn't a long term answer, so does anyone have any suggestions please?

Other than the obvious which is to look out for a second hand one, I did a quick google search and found this company:

www.carwood.co.uk

They do repairs of electric motors, might be worth giving them a call, if it's not a sealed unit it should be possible to recondition it.

Thank you for your prompt reply. My man said he couldn't trace a second hand one, but I guess he didn't spend too much time looking. I will try this company tomorrow.

I haven't been able to find a replacement for this servo motor so far, other than to find out that the part number is 964 624 34200. Tim isn't able to provide one and Carwood haven't replied to an enquiry. Does anyone know of the whereabouts of one please?
Thanks, Johncolt

Have you tried the Porsche dismantlers?

Douglas Valley Breakers, Prestige Salvage, Porsch-apart

Take a look on the 944 site and do a search. THis is a common symptom on 944's as they get older and in almost all cases is due to a small plastic clip that fails. the clip costs pence from the OPC. Not sure if the 964 system will be vastly different - can't imagine it will be. Worth checking out at lease before spending money on more expensive items.

The idea is that the clip fails and the system has a fail safe mode where it sticks on hot.

its a comon enough failure of the servo, and its always been dificult to find replacement servo motors. Plenty of older info on Rennlist, and if my memory isn't that faded, Johns 964 site had a write up at one stage.
I pulled mine to pieces, but you need patience, and small hands to be able to disassemble and get access to the whole lot, and be able to set up the linkage arms afterwards.
