etechremapping

New member
Hi guys !

I have a Design Edition One Cayman 'S'

Stunning, but no PCM module so I'm looking to retro fit it. Do I need anything else other than the new head unit PCM module itself ??

Any thoughts would be much appreciated !

Thanks!!!!!!

Simon

are you looking to have Navigation or just the PCM display as it is possible to fit the head unit without 'Nav'? ps Do you have the CD changer or BOSE speakers fitted to the car?

hi I have Bose system, and I wanted the full PCM nav and everything you would normally get with it ... Thanks ! ps. I'm after after market iPod connection interface too if you have any pointers !

(I have no affiliation to the seller) Here is a chunk of the major parts (The head unit is BOSE compatible some are not so beware): [link=http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-997-911-TURBO-PCM-2-1-SAT-NAV-UNIT-CD-CHANGER-/220723138757?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33641fd0c5]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/PORSCHE-997-911-TURBO-PCM-2-1-SAT-NAV-UNIT-CD-CHANGER-/220723138757?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item33641fd0c5[/link] You do not need the CD changer as you stated you intend on fitting an ipod interface; Dension or Mobridge do a kit that will work for you. What's missing from the ebay sale is the Fiber optic cable, for the boot, the DVD mounting brackets, GPS antenna and a few odd screws. You may also need your car coded by a dealer when it's all installed. I can send you the complete parts list but it will take a while to pull together. Retail price on head unit is circa 3K, the DVD unit is 1.7K

Edit: To the above the DVD unit is a vertical mount version for the turbo, you will need the horizontal version, yes it is different.

ORIGINAL: Mark Bennett Just a heads-up that if your car is under warranty this will invalidate it for the whole car ( [] )
Yes that old annoying nutshell. btw Porsche did a complete Tequipment PCM package for the 987 as they did for the 986 but you will still be in the grey area of warranty even if you got a dealer to fit it. They also do a Tequipment package to add the Nav DVD unit but not to add the head unit to a 987 (I think it was originally possible to order PCM without Nav in the early days; Its was always an option on the 997.) Final edit sorry for the confusion, Part Number for 987 complete package 987.044.900.73 (Cars built 2005-2006) 987.044.900.61 Cars built 2007-2008) (UK Part Numbers) ** Note you still have to specify a PCM head unit BOSE or Non-BOSE **

There are a few pitfalls with fitting used parts as the Bose amp needs to be of the correct version to work with the PCM. If the bose is the wrong variant for the PCM then it wont work properly and you will need porsche to update the bose software. In some earlier cars the bose amp will need complete replacement. All PCM units can work with Bose amps but need configuring by the porsche workshop tool. The navi drives are specific to mounting position though the cayman/ 911 and boxster and cayenne do share the same versions. The PCM and navi drive also need to be compatable hardware versions. I suggest before you undertake such a project you look at posts on renntech and planet-9 to get an idea of the scope of work and potential costs. The Porsche PCM also relies on dual diversity antennaes , this is often overlooked by retro fitters as results in a loss in radio reception. The PCM is in many ways outdated by alternatives from pioneer and kenwood so I would advise looking into these alternatives before starting to spend money amassing porsche parts and budgeting for new updated maps (sole supplier is porsche and 350 pounds a pop!)
