i know theres been hundreds of posts about insurance recently, and i've searched them all.

Two questions:

1. what should i insure the car for? clubsport, 50k miles approx, had paint, all original otherwise, best colour [;)], all mechanicals sorted & looked after etc

2. insurance companies to try. aon, peart, a manning, hagerty, hic, classicline. any that i've missed?

thanks in advance

Probably looking at £50-£55K at the moment given what the last couple have sold for.

I used A Manning, mainly because of the trackday cover, but they're quite reasonable - under £600 with £500 excess (£1250 on track), 5K mile limit, garaged, 2nd car, 3 points (though I'm probably a few years older than you!)

questions to ask are:
what track days do they cover and which they do not and will they put it in writing at the inception of the policy! ? among the list you quoted the level of cover for track days varies widely. I know some people had problems getting cover for easytrack events last year and some had problems with the PCSF spa event. Worth checking BEFORE taking out a policy i reckon.

cheers chaps
managed to speak only to hagarty today - great quote around the £400 with all trackdays including european - as long as organised and marshalled.
only downside - needs to be garaged and my driveway does not count []

will let everyone know my next quotes as i get them..

I was going to say Hagerty came back with a really good price for me this year - around £280 in Gloucestershire for 5k miles and with all organised trackdays - but as you say the car needs to be garaged when at home.

I have been with Classic Line for the past couple of years as they seem reasonably competitive but i have just received my updated policy paperwork back as the car is now on an agreed value and they want an extra £55. Is this normal? This makes them 'not quite so competitive' now!

Martin

if the value has increased from what you had it at originally then it's hardly suprising otherwise it's a bit rich as i thought they offered "free" agreed value?

Martin,
Speak to Jayne Jordan, Private Client Services Manager at Hagerty 08700 420 940
(mention my name, remind her I was at Silverstone Classic with the white RS).
She'll look after you. [;)]

Thanks, Rich

The renewal isn't due until July 1st next year but i will note down the details and give her a call nearer the time.

Laurence, this is the first time i have had an agreed value policy so i'm not sure how much they estimated it would have been worth before. I will be telling them that have no intentions of renewing with them though!

Regards
Martin

Normally you insure at a certain sum (unagreed, estimated value). You would not be paid out more than that sum, even if prices rise. Unless you had "market value" spcifically written as the sum insured? I have never seen a car insured for market value as it would be an open cheque an the insurance company could not access it's liabilty. After all you could in theory have a car worth 20k one day and overnight it becomes a 120k car. The insurance company would have a fit. So normally you insure at an estimated value and the insurance company then try to prove that it's not it's market value which is when having the estimated value agreed comes in. So did the agreed value exceed the old estimated value ?

With the exception of the liners mentioned by Matt, there should be no underseal under the front or rear arches.

Unless of course somebody has taken the pragmatic approach of a mist of Waxoil !

They are now 15 years old --- well, most are !!

Wot he said[:)] It's made very clear in the technical spec book and Porsche reduced the warrenty because of it!

Interesting (or maybe not!) odd fact is that the Japanese market cars got a 10 year warranty presumably because of the climate.

I'll get my anorak [:D]

Cheers,
Bryn.
