Help please corrosion question

Hi everyone - I need a bit of help please

I'm looking at a 996 c4s 2003 40k- the only bit I can see that i'm unsure of is at the rear of the car.

its on both sides - next to the exhaust and seems to be attached to the engine block, its a square plate and its heavily corroded.

ive taken a photo of the same plate on my Carrera.

can anyone tell me what this plate is?- is it a common area for corrosion and is it a big job to replace?

thanks to anyone who answers my plee= much appreciated

I can't quite make out what the photo is, but it looks like it might be the heat shield over the spark plugs/coils. If so, it is common for them to rust arond the mounting bolts. They aren't that expensive to replace.

+1 Richard is spot on, it's the heat shield and nothing at all to worry about. It's quite literally just a thin piece of tin held on by two bolts to protect the coil packs. There is no other cover between the rear wheels / drive shafts and this, it is there to stop the muck getting on them and hence it will either tarnish or could rot a bit.
