Help please diagnosing noises

Hi
After the winter layoff my 87 3.2 is misbehaving a bit ( has been for a while).
The two main problems which may be related are a grinding graunching sound from the gearbox in 4/5th gear at low revs and a drivetrain shunt that occurs when you back off the throttle and something appears to move, it's as if the whole engine gearbox takes a move towards you by an inch!
Can anyone help with these symptoms as I want to get them fixed as soon as poss but want to eliminate the " lets try this" approach which costs a lot in labour.
Many thanks to anyone who posts a reply
Mike

Mike, where are you based?
Any decent Independant Porsche specialist should know what the problem is after a quick test drive. They should then give you a best case/worst case estimate in order to avoid the "lets try" approach.

Cheers Si
