Help Please - Fuse for CD Changer & Boot Light

Dear folks

This question was asked on another 911 forum without much reponse.

Having failed to find any reference to either in the fuse box leaflet, I realise the easy answer is perhaps to run through the fuse box and remove each fuse until I (hopefully) find one which had blown. I am mindful not to do this in case of any consequential impact this may have on systems I don't know about eg the tracker unit.

If you happen to know which fuse controls the cd changer and front boot on a 996 Targa I'd be most appreciative if you could let me know!

Model Year? Radio type?

The CD changer gets its power supply directly from the radio - Fuse D8 (7.5A) for Radio, Fuse E5 (7.5A) for PCM. There is also a fuse on the back of the PCM unit, which you have to remove to access. However, if your radio is working, then the fuse won't be causing lack of power to the CD changer.

The luggage compartment light doesn't have a separate fuse. It is on the same circuit as the interior lights/alarm system. Fuse C3 (15A). Again, if the alarm system is working.........

For the CDC-3/Becker 2660 a mechanic told me there is also a fuse inside the cd changer. The old style glass fuse. I have never had a reason to look for this fuse. At the bottom of the changer is a plate you can remove and the fuse is under there.

If the radio fuse in the fuse box is ok then this is another fuse to check out. There is also a fuse on the back of the radio.

Richard & TP,

Thanks for your responses.

My car is July 2003 registered and the radio is the standard Porsche radio/ single cd front loader with the Bose upgrade & cd changer. The radio and single cd player are working albeit I've just remembered that there were a couple of times in the autumn when for no apparent reason, shortly after starting the car, the sound went completely from the stereo whilst the display and cd worked. This was corrected by switching off and restarting the engine - switching the stereo off and on seemed to make no difference. It only happened twice and hasn't happened since and I think it occurred after I noticed the cd changer failing.

Adding to my confusion is that the interior lights are working fine, as too is the alarm.

I may have a delve next weekend to see if I can locate the cd changer fuse referred to by TP.

Any other ideas would be appreciated - as a fallback, I presume the Porsche warranty would cover something like this when I come to have it serviced albeit that isn't due for several months!

Thanks again,

Peter

If it's a 2003, you will have the CDR23 stereo and CDC4 changer. I just looked at the retrofit instructions for the CDC4, and it shows a power wire connected to fuse E6, so that's another one to check. (On the older systems there was just one cable between radio and changer).

I doubt if the warranty will cover it. []

If the luggage compartment light isn't working (and the bulb is OK) it is most likely to be the microswitch located on the catch mechanism, under the cover here:

Richard

Very kind of you to take the time to dig out this information - much appreciated thanks.

Why am I not surprised that the "warranty" is unlikely to cover faults in factory fitted equipment?!!![8|]

I was going to wait until the weekend but curiosity got the better of me! Richard you were spot on - I changed the 'E6' fuse and hey presto the changer has come back to life. I would never have worked that out as the fuse leaflet gives no clues about cd changer plus the original fuse looks fine! Goodness only knows what an OPC would have diagnosed as the cause of my problems....[X(]

Many thanks for your kind help Richard.

Peter
