Hello all, I am returning to Porsche ownership after a 10 month absence - buying back my Porsche from the dealer I traded it in with for £2,500 less than he gave me for it! This recession isn't all doom and gloom.
Anyway, now my NCD is in use on another car so the 'mainstream' insurers want an arm and a leg, so I am looking for a competitive quote, limited mileage, garaged etc, any suggestions welcome.

Thankyou

Try an Admiral multi-car policy. I spoke nicely over the telephone to the Lady with the mid Atlantic accent and she gave me full (15 years) no-claims bonus on both my 996 C2 and my Peugeot 407 SW. Premium of £370 ish on 911 and £270 ish on Pug. Could have added more cars and got bigger discounts. It seems that the fewer drivers, the lower the premiums as they are less likely to be on the road at the same time.

My renewal with One Quote direct was £356, down from £475 last year.

These policies were for 16k p.a. on Pug and 10k p.a. on 996 with occasional business use on 996 and main business use on Pug. Both include no claims protection and courtesy car etc.

Run through the quoting procedure on line and get all the details in there but definitely ring them to close the deal. That's where the discounts are, although they will, as usual, try to sell you insurance for just about everything else in the process.

Regards

Hi, try admiral multicar, I have my 996 and every day car with them and my wife's Audi and they were the cheapest for all 3 by far. They understand you need to share your NCD. Worth a try.

Hi Douglas,

As posted many times before, insurance is a postcode lottery..... + many other factors.... age etc.,

ClassicLine offer very competetive quotes that include breakdown cover & guaranteed valuations, PCGB track days at no extra cost & approx £35 for European cover.

I have personally been with them for 2 years, approx £400 for my 2004 996 C4S

PS - just seen the previous post re Admiral & given that I've just insured my everyday car with them will be worth a multi car quote when my Porsche is up for renewal......

I got insurance through auto line, 996 tiptronic s cabrio, £260 pa fully comp, 3000 mile limit, have to be a club member!
That's for N.I. And I'm a young 39 ;) no no claims as its a classic policy

Try the "Post Office" ..... yes thats correct I did mean to type the Post Office. Go to one of the "Comparing" web sites, and once you have found PO quote, there should be a contact telephone number, call it and go through application that way ...... always cheaper that the online quote. My quote for C2 Cab fully comp ... £257.

The sun is out .... the roof is off

I agree, the Post Office is very cheap. Try Compare the Market and they will come back with numerous competitve quotes AND you get a free Meerkat which, incidentally, I am now selling on ebay (4) to pay for my exhaust manifolds. Good Luck
John

You could also try Bridle Insurance T.02380242530, Quoted me £315.00 on my 53 Targa that included track days ,30 days European green card and the wife to drive all underwritten by Aviva, you do have to be a club member... worth a punt.
Good luck with your quest!
Regards Nick

There are some useful numbers for reference in this thread any chance it can be transferred over too the "Ultimate insurance thread" Or some of it ???

Just thought it would be nice to have a list of company's worth quoting as some seem to not want to insure Porsche.

Eg: Brentacre and MGM great for modified or kits or classic but not interested in this one.
both of which wont show up on comparison sites that maybe offer a cheap deal, but is it a good one?.

just had my renewal quote for my 2006, 987 , with my broker allen and allen it came in at 1040.30, i went online to go compare .com as i have insured my focus and bike with them a few months ago , got it down to 594.66 with admiral or 597.84 with elephant.co.uk ,i won't be using my broker to renew, roughly saving 400 pounds just by shopping around

As per previous comments I have my 996 and Lexus insured under admiral multicar cost last year 1600 quoted 2400 this year with no claims . I rang admiral after going on go compare and said I had cheaper quotes . Guess what they dropped it to 1200 moral of story
Shop around and tell your current broker insurance you will leave as there are cheaper options

I don't understand Insurance brokers (apart from slander)

They pile on maximum discount for new customers and then upon renewal they give you zero until you phone to complain or leave?.

Would the name I'm looking for not be greed?.

I've been using Academy insurance for several years now. Every year come renewal time they are always the cheapest quote on the market. Usually by a big margin too. Very nice people to deal with.

Just gone through that particular hoop. Meerkats, compared, supermarket etc.

207 - no-one got anywhere near Direct Line 's renewal quote - now that was a surprise.

Cayman S - Admiral renewal quote £667, phone haggling got it down to £607. Went with Elephant at £513.

Some of you will not be surprised to learn that Admiral and Elephant are owned by the same company; EUI Limited.

[Best quote on Cayman was £485 with a company registered in Gibraltar and not regulated by the FSA - so left that one alone].

Don't get me started with insurance, number 1 daughter, 2 years no claims 1l Micra.

Renewal, 10 months third party only £1k. Hit the search engines, 1 year TPFT £600, rang them back, "oh yeah, that's a sister company we'll match it".

My reply "if your quote had been competitive in the first place you could have the business, thanks but no thanks!".

Muppet's, rant over!

I have had quotes for our Smart fortwo and forfour at more than double what I pay on the 996.

Needless to say I just laugh it off.

Had one broker tell me that the rarer the car the cheaper the insurance would be because less are involved in accidents.

So Bugatti type 41 £100 per anum seems fair.

Does anyone have experience of making a claim on Admiral ? I am with them and have not had an need to do so, but while happy with the set up process by phone (and premium) not so happy when I needed to get an error in their paperwork changed. I'm just wondering if they put good people on the new business work and muppets on the rest which would include claims.
