help please radio release

My CDR32 doesn't seem to wan't to release! I've purchased a set of the correct alltough cheap keys from Halfords but no luck.
I read that you can take of the two side trims either side of the radio and push the pins in! as anyone done this and how easy/best way without causing damage do they clip off,

thanks for any help.

They just unclip:
