Help please! - Which way round for battery in slim PA2000 handset

My 993 (bought second hand 6 yrs ago) has two handsets for the immobiliser/alarm A fat one (with red LED) with 'Porsche PA2000' on the cover and held closed by 3 cross head screws and a slimmer one (without LED) marked 'Porsche Security System' and held closed by a single cross headed screw. I assume that when new it would have had two fat ones (like my previous 993) and that the slimmer one is a later replacement.

I recently found the slim one was not working well and so opened it up to renew the battery. Unfortunately I didn't note the polarity of the existing battery before removing it. - doh! I now don't know which way to insert the replacement battery and fear that inserting it the wrong way round may blow the handset's electronics.

In the slimmer handset there is nothing on the circuit board or anywhere that I can see that indicates the intended polarity of the battery. In the hope of getting a clue from the fat one, I've opened that up but the circuit board looks completely different (and to add insult to injury the fatter one has the battery's polarity marked on its circuit board!).

Does anyone have a slimmer PA2000 handset (i.e. without LED, marked 'Porsche Security System' and held closed by a single cross headed screw) that they could whip the back off and let me know the battery orientation? If so, when the hole for the metal keyring is at the end closest to one, so that the white writing on the printed circuit boad (reading "H&P TECHNOLOGY V1 DB") is uppermost and reads correctly from left to right, which side is the battery's positive? Put another way, is the positive terminal of the battery on the right (the same side as the concave 'disarm' button) or the left (the side of the raised 'arm' button).

I'd be most grateful for any help.

Thanks

Just opened it up ..... looking at it from the back with the keyring hole on your left hand side, positive is on the top.

(to confirm , I have the old and new type with me today, the one i took the back off was the single screw unit)

Thanks Chris. Your taking the trouble to check for me is greatly appreciated.

Just so I'm not being daft (your reference to "looking at it from the back" has me a little confused, as it is the front cover that comes off my unit and not the back cover), that would mean that the positive is to the same side of the unit as the concave, 'disarm' button (and not the raised 'arm' button)? Have I understood correctly, or have I as usual got hold of the wrong end of the stick?!

Thanks

No probs, yes, the positive is the same side as the concave button on the unit.

When mine came apart, the PCB stayed in the front section of the unit, so I looked at it from the back.

Hope this is ok

Thanks ever so much.

I will scratch a "+" symbol on the inside of my handset casing so I don't have to ask the same question next time I change the battery!

Thanks again, and best wishes

Nigel
