help removing wiper speed adjuster from fascia

I'm replacing the "horse shoe" in my my02 and having problems removing the wiper speed adjuster pot. Don't want to break anything so a bit warey of using to much force, can anybody tell me if theres any tabs etc i have to push to make it pop out? Struggling with lighter too but found another post on that, but need another pair off hands to make it work! cheers scott
 
To quote the workshop manual:
