I have a 964 speedster with a very unusual issue and sometimes dangerous depending where it occurs.
The car runs perfect, has been checked at various establishements, all electrics tested and wd40'd etc but when there is a change in air temp ie moisture in the air/raining hard or soft the car loses power but still runs then cuts out.
I can then restart and sometimes it clears or it takes anything from 5 mins to 30 mins then all works OK for no reason!
I have changed/swapped ecu's, I have 2, dme and sometimes it clears or not but then just starts to work again.
It is driving me crazy hense the post to ask anyone had or have had silimler and waht was fix/issue?

Raymond,

This smacks of issues with the distributor caps and/or coils. The problem diagnosing stuff like this is that rarely are the conditions right at the time of testing for the problem to be re-created. My temptation would be to change both distributor caps and rotors and, perhaps, even the coils too.

Regards

Dave

Ray, I agree with Dave sounds like water/moisture getting on the the HT Leads, Coils or Distributor caps, I had a similar problem on a motorcycle some years ago worked fine in the dry as soon as it was damp it used to cut out, I could always bump start it again unless it was chucking it down.

Keep trying to sort it for months, I chucked loads of money at it thinking it was cured then it came back when wet, it was just on talking in the pub one night that a bloke told me to get the HT leads and distrutor changed, I did and it never happened again even when wet.

Good luck mate, intermittent problems are the worst as they always seem to run when you go to a garage[&:]

Try running the engine when this occurs inside a dark garage-you normally can get a Xmas light effect when looking at the engine. Also you might have water in the petrol.
Cheers,

Colin.

as vitesse suggested....

also - do it on a hot dry evening, then use a water misting spray gun, and spray over the engine, see if you get some sparks a dancin...

Guys, i agree best plan is new caps & rotor, coils and maybe even ignition module.
Will keep you updated
regards
Raymond
PS looks as if we may have 3 x 964 speedsters, Red & Speed Yellow RHD and my Maritmine, at Blenheim for PCGB event

spraying water over a running engine with possible insulation issues on the HT equipment sounds exciting, can I come and watch? it should make a great clip for you tube!
