HELP - Sunroof Arm Will Not Retract - Square Dash 944

Evening All
The passenger side Sunroof Arm will not retract fully, therefore roof will not close and neither can I remove the roof, clicking noise can be heard, have I stripped the gear wheel ?

Started to take it apart, released the passenger side so i can now have the roof flush.

I've stopped there until sought your advice as the roof lining under the trim panel is brittle and don't want to damage it more than i have to.

If I release both sides will i be able to pull the unit down far enough to gain access to the white plastic gear housing attached to the roof.

Yes you will but be very careful with the head lining. Sounds like the gears have stripped.

Yes, either a stripped gear (most likely) or you have somehow got the drive wire out of alignment (much less likely). Either way you'll need to take the gears out and have a look.

While the roof lining is delicate I cut mine away underneath the trim panel to make access easier. The trim panel covers everything when it's in place anyway so there is no loss of aesthetics and it makes the job of replacing the gears much much easier.

A word of advice; when you have fitted new gears (and put lots of grease into the gearboxes), adjust the clutch on the left hand side of the boot so it is only just tight enough to work. The looser it is the less likely it is to strip the gears in the future.
